Sometimes, in the hectic work week and personal things going on in our lives, we forget how to appreciate the little things in life that make our days all the more better. Here are some unconventional but effective ways to make your day more positive and feel good.
1. Start your day off with an awesome playlist.
Dubstep, classic rock, country or some good oldies. Jamming out to your favorite tunes is a perfect way to start off your day in a great mood.
2. Dress up.
You may not always want to do your hair or makeup, and get in some fancy duds but putting on your Sunday (or Friday night) best in the middle of the week will have you feeling fine, fresh, and fierce. *cute Katy Perry*
3. Greet a stranger or random person.
Saying "Good morning" to someone on the way to class or work is one of my favorite ways to make the day more positive. You know that it feels nice to be noticed so why not return the favor to the world?
4. Hold the door open for someone.
This one may seem odd but trust me, it feels great. When someone acknowledges you holding the door open for them, that thank you they give you is pretty sweet.
5. Send a text to someone with an uplifting message.
Particularly someone who you don't talk with everyday, sending a positive message to them will make you and them happier. Just knowing you made someone else smile is a wonderful and almost incomparable feeling.
6. Take a break and stretch.
You're bogged down with work and so irritated that you might rip out the eyes of the next person who does so much as to even look at you. Don't, because then you'll end up in jail. Take a deep breath, step away from your work and take a chill pill for a while.
7. Tell yourself you're awesome.
Not everyone handles everything the same way. Some people are more put together and can take care of things effortlessly while others drop a lung just trying to make it up three flights of stairs. Tell yourself that you're awesome and killing it anyway. The point is that you're challenging yourself everyday and rocking it while in the process.
8. Treat yo' self!
Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle know what's up. While we're busy killing it everyday, we sometimes forget to treat ourselves to something a little nice every once in a while, whether that be some ice cream, a glass of wine, two glasses of wine...even both options. Whatever. (P.S. If you didn't catch the reference, I suggest you brush up on your "Parks and Rec.")
9. Clear everything to destress.
A cluttered work space can make for a cluttered mind. Clearing off your desk, your emails, your room and even your text messages can destress and relax your mind.
10. Get some exercise.
This may seem like the most undesirable one but trust me, getting some 30 minutes of decent exercise in can change your mood. Whether it's spin class or a walk, you'll feel more energized and ready to kick ass.
11. Make yourself a nice homemade meal.
With busy lifestyles, it can be pretty hard to get a really good meal that isn't Chipotle (yes, I'm part of the small percentage of the US that doesn't like Chipotle). It doesn't matter if it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, preparing a delicious home cooked meal for yourself will instantly put you in a good mood and have you thinking about your favorite foods your mom used to make you.
