Growing up with an older brother has its pros and cons. On one hand you learn to stick up for yourself and not take things too seriously, but on the other you probably have some scarring childhood memories. Maybe you were hit in the head by a golf club when you were 3 years old, or pushed into the shower for no reason. Regardless of the painful memories (and scars) you still have, you wouldn't change it for anything. Here are 11 things you can relate to if you grew up with an older brother.
1. You have a scar somewhere on your body from a traumatic event caused by your brother.
It's inevitable. If you grew up with an older brother, there were daily fights or wresting matches that started out fun and ended with you crying.
2. When you were younger you played with an equal mix of your toys and your brother's, from Barbie’s and Polly-Pockets to G.I. Joe and Legos.
3. At one point in time, you thought it was cool to copy your brother’s wardrobe of baggy t-shirts and basketball shorts.
And you were convinced that you looked awesome.
4. You’ve been asked on every holiday for the past 15 years, “Does this match?” or, “Can I wear this?”
When you left for college it went as far as you getting a weekly text.
5. You most likely learned your humor/sarcasm from your brother, which usually still gets you in trouble to this day.
From being a little too sarcastic to making jokes that actually hurt people, there are some jokes reserved for just your brother.
6. More than half of your childhood memories are of your brother’s games and practices.
From practices, games and away tournaments, you almost felt like you were part of the team. Luckily you always got free food.
7. Whenever you even mention a boy's name, you are interrogated for the next 10 minutes about him and whether or not you are dating.
It usually ends with you shouting "no" over and over again.
8. It is very hard for you to be intimidated.
Years of fights and intimidation from your brother have blessed you with the gift of not really being intimidated.
9. You know how to take a joke.
To an extent, of course, you know how to joke around and never take anything too seriously. Unfortunately, with all the jokes over the years you forgot how to be serious.
10. Over the years, you developed a lot of sass, which also gets you in trouble.
With years of fights, you had to learn how to stick up for yourself, and usually, you end up being very sassy.
11. You always know who to go to when you need help.
In the end, you always know who to go to when you need help, and that is worth all the scars and tears from your childhood.
