Edison, N.J. You've probably never heard of it, but to me, it is home. I moved to the town from India when I was two. Now I am twenty, and I still call it home. I may have moved on and gone to college out of state, but Edison has remained special for many reasons. Here are some things that Edison residents can relate to.
1. Menlo Park Mall was your hang out place throughout middle school and high school.
Going into Forever 21, Marbles: The Brain Store (for all you J.P. Stevens nerds out there), and the food court was very common. Don't forget the free ice cream from Haagen-Dazs during AP Week!
2. Other people tell you that Edison feels like a different country when they come to visit.
Hey, this is the beauty of America, people. Oak Tree Road may have its disadvantages, but the food, the culture, and the people are irreplaceable. So what if people jaywalk all over the place?
3. You had to have membership at the YMCA or Minnie B. Veal at one point in your life.
Where else would you practice your basketball and magic tricks?
4. You can get authentic ethnic cuisine and it tastes amazing.
When you leave Edison, whether it is for college or for vacation, you cannot help but think about all the places you could be eating. Authentic Thai cuisine, Indian food, and Mexican food have you feeling some type of way.
5. There has been at least one occurrence of you going to Chili's on Oak Tree Road at night.
And this was not for dinner, mind you. You were just there to get the Molten Chocolate Cake.
6. You are in the best location in New Jersey.
Central Jersey, baby! You are close to New York City, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City! What would we do on breaks if we were somewhere else?
7. If you went to J.P. Stevens High School, most of your classmates were Asian.
And there is nothing wrong with that, except that most of us were overachievers. Especially during junior year of high school -- anything under a 2400 on the SATs was considered failing. No words.
8. You didn't go to Stop & Shop, you went to Patel Brothers and H-Mart.
Duh.
9. You almost lost it when you found out that Trump was opening his campaign headquarters in Edison.
But I mean, it's pretty fun to go to the office and get his free stuff so we can throw it out. I mean we are Making America Great Again one step at a time.
10. Taco Bell and Subway on Inman Avenue are your hangout spots after school.
Where else would you go with your large group of friends?
11. Edison may have bad drivers, but you couldn't imagine yourself growing up anywhere else.
Thank you, Edison for all the wonderful memories.
