11 Things You Must Do While Attending Texas Tech

From one point or another, almost everyone has heard from at least one family member that “there’s nothing to do in Lubbock.” I know I have a million times from my family before moving here, but I’ve fallen in love with my school and the places that surround it. Here are a few things I find mandatory while attending Texas Tech.

1. Go to the First Friday Art Trail.
It’s a cute date idea and something you have to do at least once while in Lubbock! It's on every first Friday of the month around downtown Lubbock. They even have trolleys that go around all the venues so you don’t have to walk/drive to all the different locations!

2. Go to a tailgate.
Game day isn’t game day without a good tailgate before. If you don’t wanna buy the cheap tailgate season passes for the tailgates around Torchy’s, try out all the fun free ones around campus! Nothing beats music, trash talk and beer before a good game of football.

3. Go to the Trail of Lights.
It’s a Texas Tech tradition that you have to see at least once. I know it gets cold here but grab some friends and hot chocolate and head out to see lights and music put on by the school, get there early it gets pretty packed!

4. Visit Conference, Ćoho or Cactus.
I recommend going to all monthly, but if you’re not crazy about the club scene you have to go at least once to experience the places everyone always talks about!

5. Take a trip to Stars & Stripes Drive In Theater.
Every girl has always had the dream of going on a date to a drive-in movie (whether she admits it or not), so boys take some advice and plan a trip here for date night ASAP.

6. Check out the cute pups at Haven Animal Shelter.
Who doesn’t like playing with puppies? Bored on a Saturday? Grab some friends and take a trip to the animal shelter and play with some cuties and maybe even take one home with you!

7. Pool hop.
Everyone knows it’s not mission impossible to get into different apartment complexes. When the warm days are here, pool hop to the Villages, U point, the Republic or the Ave and meet some new people.

8. Explore the city.
There are some cute little places in Lubbock that you can only find here, food and entertainment purposes. Drive without a destination and see what you come across. Check out places like Louie Louie Piano Bar for a good night out or Gatsby’s for some good coffee and a cliché cute cappuccino pic.

9. Pull an all-nighter at the Lib.
You know you need to keep studying, so grab some Starbucks and just stay at the lib until your 10 a.m. class. You’ll feel better about your test and can go home and crash after.

10. Attend a themed party.
What’s more fun than a party? A themed party! How can you resist dressing Risky Business or Flower Child themed? You won’t regret dressing up as someone you’re not for a night.

11. Show some school spirit.
We’re all here because we love our school, so show some Red Raider pride and go to as many sporting games as possible. From football, basketball, baseball, soccer and all the other sports, there are so many opportunities to go to at least one. Get your guns up!
