The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a family tradition in my household. I've been watching since I was a toddler. It's a sign that good food will be had, Christmas is coming and New Year's is right on track. Here are the 11 best parts about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
1. Santa
Whenever Santa shows up at the end of the parade it signifies that Christmas is literally around the corner. Ho ho ho.
2. Marching bands
Love 'em or hate 'em they're a fun aspect of parades. Being a former band nerd this helps me cope with not being able to march in parades anymore. I like to think of how lucky I am that I don't have to do that anymore. Still entertaining, though.
3. Dancers
They remind me of everything I will never be. So graceful, so pretty.
4. Floats
When creativity and engineering mix perfectly.
5. Giant balloons
They are the epitome of this parade. Spongebob in a Santa hat, Snoopy, Mickey Mouse; it's a funhouse walking down the street.
6. Crowds
People watching is intensified when you can see it on TV.
7. Narrators
They bring the feeling of the parade and a twist on things.
8. Performers
The life of the party? Or just the party?
9. Clowns (you know you love them)
I love clowns as much as the next person, which is not that much. But if you do like clowns, the parade is a treasure trove.
10. It's the 90th anniversary
Macy's coordinators have a lot in store for this year. It's their 90th anniversary. They have balloons and floats from past decades and it will surely be a ride of a lifetime.
11. It's a tradition
My family and families like mine watch this parade and have been for the past 90 years. It's a tradition to trump all traditions.
