Have you ever felt misunderstood, hypocritical, and just plain weird? If you’re an INFJ, I would bet on that. You see, if you’re an INFJ I have two things to say to you -- congratulations and I’m sorry. First off, congratulations on being the rarest personality of all 16 Myers-Briggs types. That is quite a feat! At the same time, I apologize that you are the rarest Myers-Briggs personality type. Because INFJs make up just 2 percent of all females and 1 percent of males in the whole wide world, we have some difficulties other personality types never encounter. As an INFJ, I understand that we are anything but perfect, so here are some struggles of this personality type.
1. We’re awesome at reading people… just a little too awesome. Our observant and intuitive capabilities can be a great help in social situations but can hinder us in other settings.
2. Casual dating is not for us. If it’s not serious, we’re not into it.
3. That being said, if a first date doesn’t go pretty near perfect, don’t expect a second. We can imagine our futures pretty darn well, and if you’re not in it, we won’t continue wasting time.
4. We overthink… everything. Mostly everything about ourselves, not others.
5. Unless you hurt us. In that case, it’s all we can think about. We’re a pretty sensitive bunch, more than you’d think from first glance.
6. Even if you don’t try to hurt us, you still might succeed at it unintentionally. You see, we’re pretty in touch with everyone else’s feelings during a social encounter, and if something isn’t quite right, we’ll analyze it long after we’ve said goodbye.
7. Speaking of being social, well, we really just aren’t. Instead of feeling rejuvenated after being with others, we feel exhausted and drained. So alone time (and lots of it) is a must.
8. With all that alone time, we’ve learned to dabble in a few hobbies. That’s right- we’re pretty artistic and creative. We admire music, art, writing, creative problem solving, and more.
9. And because of all our various knowledge in different disciplines and fields, that makes us pretty smart, too. In fact, we have some of the highest GPAs and are a personality type very likely to stay in school throughout college.
10. School, like other things in our lives, can overwhelm us pretty easily. We can get severely bent out of shape if our routine changes or becomes too hectic. What might seem like a normal schedule to others can be completely paralyzing to us. We like things simple!
11. We like things simple, even though we’re anything but. INFJs can’t understand ourselves sometimes -- and I’m still trying to decide if that’s okay!
INFJs bring a lot to the table. We’re called The Counselors for a reason, and it’s to help those in need. We see the good in others, a bright future of the world, and even a smile can warm our hearts. Like everyone else we have a few flaws, but it’s looking beyond them that matters.
