Summer is different for everyone. It's a fun time without school, it's three months inside, it's a season of serious heat, it's a time to catch up with friends, it's a time to catch up with friends, it's an endless weekend at the lake, it's a trip to the beach... If you Springfieldians ever find yourself bored and at a loss of what to do, here are 11 inexpensive things you can do to make your summer worth while.

1. Attend a local band's concert

There are concerts playing all the time downtown. Local bands like Grammar, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, The Stamps, The Combats, and Bellvedere.

2. Visit the farmer's market

There are a couple of farmers markets in town. Stop by one morning and get some tasty treats and produce!

3. Go to the river

There are many places to go swimming so find yourself a spot and jump on in to get away from the heat!

4. Go to a park

Springfield has many beautiful parks including Sequiota and Nathanael Greene. Busiek is also located just 20 minutes outside of Springfield in Ozark.

5. Purchase a hammock

Hammocks are all the rave this summer. For a relaxing, fun time, hammock up in some trees. Whether you're chilling by yourself or with a group of friends, you're guaranteed to have a swell time.

6. Eat Hurtz Donuts at the top of a parking garage with pals

One of my favorite things to do while gallivanting downtown is to pick up a donut and eat it at the top of a parking garage. You can watch the whole city below you. It is especially fun at night.

7. Andy's

Springfield is fortunate enough to have multiple Andy's Frozen Custard locations, and it is one of the best things you will ever have.

8. Snow Biz V Pineapple Whip

There's no competition when it comes to Andy's, but when it comes to Snow Biz and Pineapple Whip, it's a debate. Both are inexpensive and delicious!

9. Ozark Empire Fair

The fair begins July 28, 2016 and goes through August 6th. It is one thing you absolutely can't miss out on! Food, rides, and music are everywhere.

10. Kayaking

A morning or evening time in a kayak is a chill way to de-stress. If you find yourself without a kayak, you can rent one at the Springfield Lake.

11. Springfield Cardinals Game

Springfield is home of our beloved Cardinals. Hammons Field provides a great atmosphere to hang out with friends and watch a baseball game.

I hope these suggestions help you out with your summer! Next time you're molting in your basement in front of Netflix, remember that adventure is out there!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
