Working at a baseball stadium definitely isn’t your typical summer job, but it sure is a fun one. It’s a work environment unlike any other—loud, fast-paced, and always exciting. There are certain qualities of this job that make it unique. If you can relate to any of these, you probably know what it’s like to spend your summer nights working at a stadium.
1. As soon as you see a rain cloud in the distance, you pray the tarp doesn’t have to be pulled.
No one likes a rain delay. No one.
2. You can sing Take Me Out To the Ballgame and God Bless America in your sleep.
Even though you sing it at every game, the 7th inning stretch will never get old.
3. The smell of hot dogs and popcorn is all too familiar.
4. When you notice the game is tied, you instantly dread the thought of extra innings.
Please, no. Someone just score and end the game already.
5. You haven’t experienced heat until you work a day game in the middle of July.
At this point, you’re thinking a rain delay may be what you need.
6. You get really tired of hearing the same walk-up songs 50 times in a row.
And they’ll get stuck in your head every single game. Never fails.
7. You measure time in innings.
"So if we're in the bottom of the eighth with two outs, that means there's only seven more outs until the game is over."
8. Not having to go into the bottom of the ninth inning is such a blessing.
Because at the end of a long night, having a game with three less outs seems like such a relief.
9. During the times you get to stop and watch a little bit of the games, you’ve probably seen some pretty cool plays.
"Seriously, someone needs to send that one to SportsCenter."
10. No one is safe from foul balls.
If you haven’t been hit or at least come extremely close to being hit, consider yourself lucky.
11. Before you know it, the entire season has gone by and you’re not quite ready for it to end.
So…what am I supposed to do for the next seven months?
