Now that Rio 2016 is in full swing, here's a list of the ten most entertaining events to watch (at least my favorites).
1. Diving- (Individual and Synchronized)
I am afraid of heights and haven't taken physics since my first year of High School so it makes sense that I'm completely amazed that people can flip and turn off of a board meters from the ground, then make ZERO splash and sometimes completely in sync with someone also twisting and falling into the water?? Also, the events move along quickly so there's always something happening.
2. Swimming- Sprints
It's not the Summer Olympics without swimming and, of course, Michael Phelps. Not only is he the flag bearer for Team USA, but there's a pretty good chance that this is Phelps' last Games- so why not watch.
3. Swimming- Medleys
Medleys are just as attention-grabbing as sprints as there are so many switches, with the factor of making a usually individual sport into a team effort.
4.Track & Field- All the Events
Maybe its because I spent most spring Saturday's at track meets in high School, but I love watching as many Track & Field events as possible (there are 47- I can't spend all day watching TV). Yes, that includes distance running.
5. Gymnastics- Anything but Floor
I can barely do a cartwheel so watching any type of gymnastics is pretty impressive. Except Floor. I'm sorry, but I didn't even like watching the routines in "Stick It." Everyone wants to see if this year's women's team will compare to the Fierce Five that competed in 2012. (Does NOT include Rhythmic Gymnastics).
6. Beach Volleyball
Can the Summer Olympic Games still be qualified as "Summer" without Beach Volleyball?
7. Trampoline
Okay, so I never knew that this was an Olympic event until recently but I'm so intrigued. How does one compete at trampoline? Is it about jumping high? Or having the coolest tricks? I NEED TO KNOW.
8. Cycling- BMX
It's the X Games meets the Olympics and who doesn't want that?
9. Canoe- Slalom
Similarly to trampoline, I don't think I've watched competitive canoeing in an Olympic setting, but it looks pretty entertaining.
10. Triathlon
Honestly, I'm just interested to know how this event will work if athletes were told to not put their heads under water.
11. Soccer
My soccer-obsessed family is in town, so watching is mandatory.
