Over this last break, Netflix basically took over my life. There were multiple shows that consumed all of my spare time surrounding the Christmas holiday, but one of the best would have to be

New Girl. If you have not seen this show, I recommend that you grab a computer and steal your roommate's Netflix information right this second and get ready for a ride. Here are 11 reasons that you should be watching New Girl, and I mean it!

1. The characters are incredibly relatable.

The character development in this show is so utterly fantastic. No matter what interests you or what type of personality you have, I promise that you’ll be able to relate to at least one of these characters. I empathize with many of them, but what really got to me is how Nick can’t lie. He gets a painfully large amount of back sweat, and a person can tell that something isn’t right from a mile away. I feel your pain, Nick.

2. The theme song is horribly catchy.

At first, I was slightly annoyed by this jingle, but after a couple of episodes, it made me want to come up with my own theme song. It’s very short but has a great ability to be able to get stuck in your head for hours. “Who’s that girl? It’s Jess!”

3. The relationships between characters will make you angry and sentimental at the same time.

With every show there are love stories and ups and downs that will make you angry. As a viewer you know that certain people will end up together, or should end up together, but watching that process unfold can sometimes be very painful to watch. However, seeing how this group of people care about each other will leave you feeling a completely different way entirely and will make you want to go and hug your best friend.

4. Everyone wants to learn how to truly play True American.

One of the coolest things about this show is the drinking game that they play. The rules are incredibly vague and confusing, and when you watch it you have no idea what’s going on. This is the exact reason why everyone who has ever watched New Girl wants to learn how to play it. It honestly may be one of the best things ever invented. 5. They just put a new season up on Netflix.

With this new season added you have even more opportunity to get hooked and fall in love with the show. The episodes are also only about twenty minutes each, so you can easily fly through them. It’s very doable to finish it all in no time.

6. This show will make you cry because you’ll be laughing so hard.

I actually almost fell off of my bunk bed a couple of days ago because I couldn’t handle it. However, not only do woman find this show amazing, I have heard grown men giggle uncontrollably at it as well. Watching you 6’3”man giggle with pleasure is almost as amusing as the show itself.

7. It teaches you lessons.

Whether it’s to take chances or go after the person you love, New Girl can give you power that you never thought you had. Some of the things that happen to the characters are ridiculous, but you can learn from the mistakes that they make and a lot of the time their situation can relate it to a current one of your own.

8. It gives you great ideas.

Other than True American, one of the best things that I have taken from this show is the “Douchebag Jar.” Whenever one of the characters, Schmidt, says something offensive, rude, or just plain Schmidt-like he has to add money to the jar. The amount he puts in varies depending on how bad what he said is. I find this idea so amusing, and if you have a friend who needs to get it together, you might just want to implement a “Douchebag Jar” or a jar of a different kind.

9. You’ll want to call up your childhood best friend and figure out what went wrong.

New Girl is the perfect blending of old friends and new. There are characters who have been friends since they were in grade school, some since college, and some since the beginning of the show. It really describes what it means to be a true friend, whether a newer one or one who has been around since everyone can remember.

10. The loft is everyone's idea of friendship goals.

Off of the last point, the relationships that these characters have should be everyone’s idea of friendship goals. Yes, they may have some rocky moments, but at the end of the day there is nothing but love in this loft. It makes being thirty, single, and living with a bunch of your friends look like what everyone should be doing.

11. It’s the Friends of a new generation.

Debatably, I think that New Girl is the Friends of the current day. Yes, there are other shows that you can also say this about, but when you compare the plots, they’re pretty similar. If you like Friends, then you should definitely give New Girl a shot.

Now that I’m out of episodes I truly don’t know what to do with myself. Therefore, I wish to live vicariously through others as they begin the journey of watching this amazing group of friends. If this didn’t convince you to give it a try, I still urge you to do so. If you have a soul and a sense of humor, you will not be disappointed.
