11 Reasons You Don't Want To Be Sick At College

We all know being sick is a bummer no matter what you have. But with that said, being sick while at college without your mom to take of you is ten times worse. Who is there to get you soup, or pour you gatorade, or come behind you to cover you up with a blanket? Not your mom! But recently when the flu and strep have been going around campus I managed to catch strep myself and somehow had to take care of myself. But how do I do that when I am a full time student and don't have my mom here to help me through it? Somehow, slowly but surely, I am making it with the help of some friends and long binges of Netflix. With that said, let me share the reasons why illness at college is no fun and no joke without your mom or dad to take care of you.

1. Going to the doctor calls for numerous phone calls to your mom because who really knows anything about insurance.

2. Getting medicine is like pulling teeth because once again, insurance is confusing.

3. You're hungry and want some soup? Well, you'll have to go get it yourself.

4. Missing class in high school was great, but miss one class in college and you'll be left in the dust.

5. But then if you don't miss class to rest, you might feel like a zombie and actually end up delaying getting healthy quicker.

6. And then when you get back from class, you get behind on your homework because all you want to do is nap.

7. Walking across campus feels like you're walking a marathon because you're weak and you can't breath.

8. None of your friends want to be around you because they don't want to catch the plague.

9. Catching up on sleep and health means missing the biggest parties or concerts going on around campus.

10. You have to be posted up in bed, which may seem nice, but gets old half way through day 1.

11. Last but not least being sick just stinks as a whole because in reality there's nothing you can do about it besides take medicine and be patient and hope that it quickly goes away.

Although being sick at home with your mom taking care of you may stink because you're sick, just know that being sick while at college is no joke and you need to prepare yourself, or find good friends who will help take care of you. Maybe if you're lucky your best friends will even be sick at the same time and you can both suffer together through whatever you might have.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
