Move in is just a few weeks away and then we get to spend 9 months in the greatest place on earth; OAKLAND! Pitt's campus is pretty unique, placed right in the middle of Pittsburgh which gives students plenty to do and see. Admissions tell us at all our orientations that "the city is our campus." But that isn't the only thing that makes Pitt so awesome! Here are twelve reasons that Pitt is so unique.
1. The Cathedral of Learning.
Or as we lovingly call her, Cathy! As if her Hogwarts-like architecture wasn't enough, Cathy is also listed as the tallest educational building in the Western Hemisphere!
2. Heinz Field.
What is so unique about our stadium? We share our stadium with the Pittsburgh Steelers! The colors are switched out from blue & gold to black & gold right after Saturday's game to get ready for some Sunday night football!
3. The O.
As said before, Pitt is a very urban school. This allows Pitt students to have access to a wide variety of restaurants, shops and museums. But the iconic Original Hot Dog Shop, located right in the middle of Pitt's campus, is an Oakland staple. We can all say that we've gotten just a greasy bag of O's fries late on a weeknight.
4. The Oakland Zoo.
Our basketball student section is probably the best in the nation cause there ain't no party like an Oakland Zoo Party. With student tickets only costing $5, you would be crazy not to go jump around in the Pete with hundreds of your closest Panther friends!
5. Cardiac Hill.
Although, to get to those basketball games, you have to make your way up Cardiac Hill and its accompanying steps! But I guess that's just Pittsburgh for ya... But if you do pass out/ have a heart attack/ die on your way up, you're still right next to Presby Hospital so they can take care of you!
6. We know that Penn State Sucks.
I don’t think this one needs an explanation... Pennsylvania only has room for one! #H2P
7. We get hit by buses.
Come on guys, look to the left, they even painted a reminder on the sidewalk for you! Although the free tuition is enticing...
8. Forbes Field.
You knew that the original home plate is located in Posvar but did you know the original outfield wall is just across the street, still in Oakland?!
9. Sweet Caroline.
After every third quarter at football games, the crowd all put their arms around each other and sing Sweet Caroline (Let's Go Pitt!)
10. We need motivation to stay for the entire football game.
Free gloves, headbands, t-shirts you name it! Although in our defense, the shuttles to get to and from the stadium are kind of a pain. #FourQuarters
11. Free t-shirts.
Honestly, if there isn't a new free shirt provided at an event, what's the point in going? You'll have about a dozen shirts you didn’t pay for by the end of freshman year.
12. Towers.
Whoever thought that designing not one but three cylindrical dorms was a good idea, was wrong. The rooms are tiny and shaped like a slice of pie... Really??
Get ready for another great year in Oakland! Hail to Pitt!
