College football season is upon us, and Seminole fans have been anxiously awaiting its return since the fateful Oregon game this past January (which my heart actually still hurts from watching), the end of the 29-game win streak, and Jameis' draft into the NFL. Whether your hopes for this season are high or low for the fate of the 'Noles this year, there is one thing you can count on whether we win or lose: tailgates.
Yes, tailgate season -- there really is nothing like it. But, contrary to popular belief, it's actually cool to leave the tailgate (no matter how cute that girl/guy you just met is) and make it to the game. Trust me. Here's why it's worth it.
1. Osceola and Renegade.
Freshman year, I didn't even know that at the kickoff of every home game Chief Osceola rides Renegade across the field and plants a flaming spear at midfield. A flaming freaking spear. It's pretty darn cool and is one of the best traditions in college football. You won't want to miss it.
2. The Cheerleaders and the Golden Girls.
I can't cheer and I can't dance, but the FSU Cheerleaders and Golden Girls are awesome and get the crowd pumped at every game.
3. The war chant.
If you think doing the war chant out at the bar is cool, there's nothing quite like doing the war chant with an entire stadium of people who love the Seminoles as much as you do.
4. The chop.
It just goes hand-in-hand with the war chant and there's nothing like looking around and seeing an entire stadium full of people doing it with you.
5. Crazy Seminole fans.
Who doesn't love to see diehard Seminole fans in their element, cheering on their favorite team, and getting all worked up when the slightest play goes astray. These people are also great for explaining to you all of the small details of what's happening during the game if you're not super football savvy like me.
6. Making new friends.
Last year I became friends with all of the girls sitting around me as we jumped and screamed and panicked as we awaited the nerve wracking end of the Clemson game. You never know who you might meet!
7. The Marching Chiefs.
Last year they spelled out Beyonce on the field, need I say more?
8. Dippin' Dots.
Need to cool down during the game? Dippin' dots at the stadium are a cold, sweet treat.
9. Being there for the win.
It's absolutely exhilarating to be in the stadium as the team wins, the fireworks go off, and everyone goes crazy. You don't have that same feeling at just any tailgate or bar.
10. The team entering the stadium.
It's so energizing watching the team, first-hand, enter the stadium ready for the game.
11. You only have so many game days as a student.
Four years goes by pretty fast, and before you know it, it'll be over. Enjoy being a student while you can.
So, live it up and drink it down, but make sure to make it to the games this game day season.
