Every student-athlete would agree that there’s nothing like the bond between athletes and our athletic trainers. These awesome individuals do much more than nurse us back to health throughout our careers, and learn far more about us (probably more than they care to know), well beyond our medical records. Truthfully, they don’t receive enough credit. If we could emulate their passion and dedication on the field, there’s no doubt that we could win every game. They become our role models, friends, and even members of the team – and all because of the following 11 reasons:
1. They’re at our 6 AM practices
Even if it means pulling an all-nighter, and getting there at 5 AM to tape or stretch us, they don’t complain.
2. They’ll wipe our blood, sweat, and tears
Whether it’s a scrape, torn ACL, or broken leg, they’re there to wipe up the mess and as a shoulder to cry on.
3. They put up with our complaining
Sometimes we can be a little dramatic, I’ll admit it, although those turn burns and blisters do truly hurt.
4. They’re our biggest fans
From the bus rides to standing on the sidelines, they’re at every game, cheering us on.
5. Their input becomes as valuable as the coach
The pep talks and lectures of disappointment during the tough games are equally as important to us as what our coaches have to say.
6. They don’t judge
Sometimes our ailments don’t have the best causes, as college students, but they help us recover regardless.
7. They’ll get us back to 100% as soon as possible
They understand that sitting on the sidelines can be equally as painful as our injuries, and will get us back to full strength as quickly as possible.
8. They replace our doctors (and therapists)
With any issues we encounter, whether with our health or in life, they’re the first people we consult for their diagnosis and advice.
9. They have our best interests at heart
Once in a while, athletes will ignore injuries because of our love for the game, but our athletic trainers will force us to realize this one game isn’t worth a lifetime of health issues.
10. They have a high tolerance for anything sweaty, smelly, or just gross
From our sweaty, blistered feet after practice to the stench of our pinnies, nothing seems to faze them.
11. They want to see us succeed
Without our athletic trainers, it would be impossible to remain healthy throughout the season. They’re the reason for our success, and we love them for it.
