11 Reasons Halloween Is the Best

Instead of barreling to Christmas, why not take time to smell the dead roses and rotting corpses?

I don't really know how to start this out, but I am so excited for this guys. Halloween is here. Halloween. Is here. It's officially the next major holiday on all our calendars, and the anticipation for this night builds up months in advance as people decorate their homes and buy their costumes. There's free candy everywhere you go and everyone has a night off to be someone or something they aren't, just for fun. Here's why Halloween is the absolute best, hands down.

1. It's a holiday no one has to worry about being lonely on.

Being by yourself on Halloween isn't so bad. There's no feeling of being forced to see people if you really don't want to, and who doesn't love staying in to watch movies? If you do want to go out, there's usually tons of parties and get together's being held that night, there's always something to do!

2. Halloween Horror Nights, or really any other haunted houses.

Many theme parks hold Halloween specific events where they have extended hours, haunted houses, and scary actors coming at you from all around. There's no other experience like it and you can't be scared like this family is during any other season.

3. The viral videos of people getting scared are a gift to this planet.

Let's all take a moment to appreciate everyone who films their friends getting the pee scared out of them.

4. All the crazy and funny costumes you get to see people walk around in.

Halloween is one of the only days you truly get to show off your sense of humor and your interests. You get to act like a completely different person and let loose for a little while. Who wouldn't want to celebrate?

5. The movie marathons that play on TV with old Halloween movies.

There's the Halloweentown series, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and then there are the scarier movies that'll really get you like Purge, Halloween and Scream. These marathons leave you locked on your couch and tuned in to the nostalgia.

6. Costume parties are ridiculously fun.

At any age, costume parties are always fun. Getting to see all your friends and even strangers being their favorite superheroes, or a human loofa and having a great time makes for an amazing memory.

7. No presents or gifts to give out!

Halloween means no presents! Unlike Christmas or Easter, Halloween already comes without the expectation of a present or gift giving. The only thing to worry about is giving out candy, and that's only if you want to.

8. The weather in October is usually bearable.

The weather outside is beginning to cool down to reasonable temperatures but isn't too hot like summer or too cold like winter can be. October 31st has the perfect conditions to be outside and enjoy!

9. Halloween decorations are better than Christmas decorations. There, I said it.

There's just something about pumpkins adorning a walkway and spiderwebs spiraling down a banister that makes my heart flutter. Decorations can vary from fun to extremely scary and downright terrifying.

10. Trick or treating is literally free candy.

Who doesn't enjoy getting candy for free? Think back to the excitement you felt when those precious candy bars were dropped in your bucket at the door of all your neighbors. Isn't that one of the greatest feelings?

11. The post-Halloween candy discount that starts the next day.

70% off of candy? Don't mind if I do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
