11 Emotions I Wish I Didn’t Have

Emotions. They make us human. Being able to feel happiness, or joy, or even pride can make life a beautiful thing. However, there are hardships in life that we all have to face. With that, there are also emotions or feelings in life that we all have to deal with. Some emotions, arguably, should not exist because of the negativity they can bring to our daily lives.

1. Jealousy

Arguably one of the worst emotions I've ever felt. It’s like heat is radiating off my skin and I feel so infuriated that I cannot breathe. No matter how hard I fight it, it consumes my every thought until it decides on its own to fade away.

2. Anger

This is just something I wish did not exist for any human. It can lead to so many hurtful things being done, said, or event thought. Anger can change someone into their own worst enemy.

3. Anxiety

Some people have a harder time dealing with this than others. For me, it’s an inescapable feeling. I can’t breathe, I can’t think, and I can barely hold myself together. Sometimes it comes up unexpectedly, like a foul surprise. I wish I never felt anxious again and I wish no one else had to deal with anxiety, either.

4. Sadness

This emotion goes without saying. Who ever wants to feel sad? No one. It can ruin someone’s day and their relationships with others. Like anger, sadness can really change someone.

5. Nostalgia

Longing for the past. The most painful part about this feeling is that you can’t go back.

6. Hope

Now, I know this sounds weird. But hope can be deceiving. What I sometimes think is a hopeful situation turns into false hope that I don't realize until it's too late. Hope can be a beautiful thing, but it can also be a painful emotion when that hope you had for someone or something fails you.

7. Disgust

I wish I wasn't disgusted by some people. I wish that I could truly realize that people make mistakes, and not everything they do is acceptable. But I can’t. Some things that people do will reside with me for the rest of my life, and I can't let it go. I wish I didn't feel disgust for the people that do horrible things and I wish I could easily forgive.

8. Guilt

This is truly a gut-clenching feeling. It’s like a 100-pound weight is resting on my shoulders. What I did and who I did it do sticks to me like an ugly tattoo, but with no way of removing it. Time is the only thing that can heal this emotion. But time can only move so fast.

9. Despair

What’s worse than having hope and then being crushed by the outcome? Having no hope at all. Knowing pain or failure or guilt is in your future is a horrible feeling.

10. Grief

Feeling loss and missing someone is an emotion we all have to deal with in life. Although this is a sinking feeling, it can also have the positive result of making someone stronger. I can only speak from experience. However, in the moment when all you feel is grief, it can be too much. If there's no light at the end of the tunnel, grief can lead someone into a state of loss and depression.

11. Fear

When I say “fear,” I don't mean being scared or watching a scary movie. I mean fear of the future. Fear of the unknown. Unsure or blind as to what lies ahead for you. That is scary, and something I've thought about for countless sleepless nights.

15 Times "Parks and Recreation" Summed Up Your Library Experience

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
