It's officially April, the last full month of the semester. The weather is beach worthy and with just a few weekends left, it's time to make the most of them. Here are the top 10 things to do in Wilmington during the month of April.

1. Beach (obviously!)

When you live in Wilmington, you definitely have to go to the beach in April. Having warm weather while other states are still dealing with cold or rain, you might as well take advantage of living near the beach! Just don't skip classes to spend the day as a beach bum.

2. Azalea Festival Downtown

The annual Azalea Festival takes place downtown from April 6 to April 10 with multiple different events going on in the area. A large street fair, Snoop Dogg concert, parade, fireworks, art shows. What more could you ask for? Take a few hours out of your weekend to do something that happens only once a year.

3. New Hanover County Arboretum

For all those nature lovers and photography masters, the New Hanover County Arboretum is the place to be in April. It's free to the public and is well worth a stroll through on a gorgeous afternoon. You might even see some hummingbirds and butterflies.

4. Yard Sales

The spring and summer are the best times for yard sales, and Wilmington even has a whole website dedicated to them. Wilmingtonyardsales.com shows listings for every day of the week and even has a map to help plan your routes. Yard sales are perfect to do on an early Saturday morning because you never know what treasures you'll find. An old surf board you can easily fix up? A set of pots for the apartment? What about the perfect Christmas decoration? You never know and the hunt is always fun.

5. Host a Cook Out

Nights are warm enough to hang outdoors without a jacket. Grab your friends and host a potluck cook out. One person brings the burgers, another the chips and dip, another the hot dog toppings. If you live in an apartment complex with a grill, put it to use. If not, improvise and have everyone bring pre-made food from Harris Teeter. The point is to sit outside with some good friends and enjoy a meal together.

6. Start Planting

No matter where you live, a dorm room, apartment, a house, you can always use the touches of a plant. Put together a terrarium to make your room feel more like spring, or head to Lowe's and grab a nice plant to stick on your porch. Maybe even plant some tomato seeds in a planter. Either way, it'll be a nice touch to welcome spring.

7. Pick Your Own Strawberries

Lewis Farms is on Gordon road and has pick your own strawberries! Not only is this a fun thing to do on a spring afternoon, but they also have delicious ice cream and fresh produce for you to buy and take home to cook. It's certainly a unique thing to spend the day doing.

8. Visit Britt's Donuts

Even if you're not originally from Wilmington, you know how going to Britt's is a tradition. Although the opening day has passed, there are still plenty of warm spring days where getting a fresh donut and walking along Carolina Beach is a must.

9. Take a Trip to the Zoo

Wilmington's zoo is called Tregembo Animal Park, and it has a wide array of animals. From a fennec fox to a white tiger, the zoo is a great place to spend a couple hours away from homework. The park only costs 12 dollars, which is cheaper than some movie tickets.

10. Enjoy the Weather!

Wilmington is a place that has great weather at the beginning of spring. Sure, it rains quite often, but we don't have chilly rain like they do in other places. Enjoy the weather, go outside and read a book, and do something to get yourself out and about and enjoying spring!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
