All students eagerly wait for the day when they are finally let out of school for the summer. Once they’re out, however, there is a constant struggle against boredom, starting on Day 1 of summer vacation. While it seems like many friends are posting pictures of their far-away vacation destinations, there are still more things to do locally than some people realize. So, for those who have one day off of work here and there and want a mini vacation, here are a few ideas to ensure that boredom stays far away from your radar.

1. Go to the beach.

One of the most obvious ways to avoid summer boredom is by spending the day at the beach. You can swim, tan, relax, or even play some beach games like volleyball. After all, who doesn't love spending time near the ocean?

2. Explore new exercise routines.

Summer weather is perfect for being outdoors. Take a day off from visiting your gym, and go for a run or hike in a new place. Switching up your exercise routine makes staying healthy much more exciting and adventurous!

3. Learn about something that interests you.

One of the first reasons that students get bored after leaving school for the summer is the sudden change from cramming for finals to having more free time than you can handle. Because you are so used to all the work that was piled on top of you for the last month of school, it may seem a bit odd that you no longer have papers and projects to hand in or finals to study for. Since you have so much free time in the summer, why not learn more about something that interests you?

4. Practice what you're passionate about.

Whether you are trying to improve your dance skills or you want to become better at running, the summer is the perfect time to practice. You will be proud of what you have accomplished during your months away from school if you spend time working on whatever hobby you want to get better at.

5. Reconnect with friends.

Being away at college makes it hard to stay in touch with the friends that you left behind at home. Everyone is on different, busy schedules during the school year, so trying to keep in touch with all of the friends in your hometown can be hard and stressful. The good news is that everyone returns home for the summer, and now is the perfect time to get together and share all of your college experiences with each other!

6. Take a scenic drive.

With nature in full bloom, scenic drives can be beautiful in the summertime. Play your favorite songs in the car, and take a relaxing drive in a new and beautiful area in your state. Bringing friends along for the ride makes it even more fun. You would be surprised how many places exist in your state that you have not yet seen!

7. Try something new and random.

One of the best places to get ideas for something to do during the day is by visiting Groupon.com. Not only do they give you discounts on just about everything, but they also give you ideas of new things that you have not yet tried. Spend some time exploring all your options for new ways that you can spend your day. This website had deals on everything from whale watching to yoga classes!

8. Start a new hobby.

Has there been a hobby that you have always wanted to try but never have? The summer is the perfect time to finally try whatever you have always dreamed of trying. Maybe you've always wanted to be a better photographer or try a unique hobby like slacklining. The summer is the perfect time to get going on whatever holds your interest!

9. Set a longterm goal and begin working on it.

Maybe you love writing and have always dreamed of writing a novel. Maybe your longterm goal has to do with whatever your major is in college. No matter what your dream is, the summer is the time to set a specific goal and steps on how to achieve it. Think of everything that you are able to accomplish in the months that your are home from school!

10. Work on improving yourself and your lifestyle.

Sometimes, the reason that you are bored is just because each day seems repetitive and nothing new happens in your life anymore. Even the smallest changes in your everyday routine can add some excitement to your life. Summer is also the time to focus on yourself, and discover what you like or dislike about who you are. The summer provides you with enough time to either learn to accept who you are or change what you don't like so that you will return to school feeling more confident and proud of who you are!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
