7 Things To Do This Summer

You can't sit around watching Netflix for four months

If you're anything like me, you're two weeks into summer break and already don't know what to do with yourself. Sure, being home is nice at first, but then you realize it just doesn't compare to being at school. If you're looking for ways to cure your summer boredom, here are a few.

1. Learn to do something new

Want to finally use the yoga mat you bought five years ago? Perfect your Spanish? Cook something besides ramen? This is your chance. You have four months to learn something new and perfect it, so take advantage of it.

2. Get a job

This might not sound like the most fun way to spend your summer, but getting a summer job will give you valuable life experiences and is a great way to meet new people!

3. Take a road trip

Chances are, you have a friend who lives somewhere that you've never been before. Plan a weekend to visit them and see what their town has to offer.

4. Try new restaurants

Instead of going to all your usual favorite spots, try something new every time you go out to eat. Who knows, you might find a new favorite place!

5. Take a summer class

Take a class in something that interests you, that you may not have room in your schedule for during the school year. Bonus if the credits are transferrable to your university!

6. Read a book, not because you have to

Read a book that isn't school-related. Read because you want to, not because you have to. Ask around and find out favorite books of people you're close to and read those, maybe even revisit those dreaded AP English books from your senior year that you just read the sparknotes for, and actually read them.

7. Clean out your closet

Get rid of the clothes you've had since middle school that you "might wear for something." You're not going to wear it. You may be able to sell some stuff and make a few extra bucks, and then probably use that money to buy more clothes.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
