7 Ways You Know You've Made A New Best Friend

Every girl who was once in Girl Scouts knows the song "make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other's gold; a circle is round and has no end, that's how long I want to be your friend." That song describes college to a T. As much as I love my friends at home, I love making new best friends as well. College has been a great experience to make tons of new friends but also to have new best friends that choose to invest their time into you. But what makes me sure that I've made a new best friend? I mean ultimately, you just know but there are seven things that make these special few stand out among any of my new friends! These special few may not even know the impact on you that they are making but, if you know you are somebody's "someone" you should know how important you really are!

1. They make you try new things

My friends have experienced so many firsts with me, from my first tattoo, my first breakfast burrito, to even my first snowmobile ride! Trying new things is never easy, but when you have someone in your corner cheering you on doing it with you, it makes new things way less scary and ten times more exciting!

2. They hang out with you at all hours of the night

We all remember sleepless nights with our best friends. Those are nights to remember because they are giving up their precious sleep time to be spending time with you! Everything is better in the middle of the night anyways!

3. They care about your best interest

These friends are so genuine, care about your best interest and are so selfless! These friendships aren't about what they can gain but about you both growing together!

4. So much laughter

When someone's laughter gives you a genuine smile, you know there is a special relationship there! I find that my friends and I often laugh at nothing or stupid things, and then we continue laughing because we laugh at ourselves so much!

5. Pure joy

Not just pure, but constant amounts of joy! Whether that joy is smiles, laughter, or just making you feel like you can forget your busy life struggles for a few minutes and just be yourself!

6. Time together is never boring

Who cares what you're doing, it just matters that you are getting to spend time together and hang out! Whether your time is spent at lunch or in the car, memories are made and this time is valuable.

7. You can never thank them enough

There is a constant feeling of thankfulness for their friendship and for them having your back while just loving on you all the time-- but there can never be enough thanks for everything they do for you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
