Have you ever moved out of somewhere? Like when you moved away from home for the first time, and you’re packing up all of your things, and you realize how much stuff you have that you literally didn’t even know you had. The other day, I was doing my weekly “clean out the things you don’t use in your closet," and I found one flip flop. I swear on my life. There was no match to it, I just didn’t throw it out when I lost the other. What in the world? What is wrong with me?
I proceeded to throw out/donate 20 pairs of shoes. 20. You honestly can’t even tell. This is just one of the bajillion examples of useless things in my closet, but I’ll spare you and just tell you 10 of them.
1. Seven shoeboxes.
I can never convince myself that I won't need them. I always think, "Maybe I will store things in here, or use them to ship something, or put shoes in them to pack." But nope. They are stacked up on the top shelf of my closet. Sitting.
2. Six to seven large tote/duffle bags.
Somehow, I ended up with two bid day bags that are exactly the same. No one has come looking for the spare, so I just kept it, to, you know, take up space. I also have three purses I haven’t used since high school and four backpacks. One is seriously pink and from seventh grade. It has all my best friends’ names on it. Not joking. Also an Ed Hardy luggage tag.
3. Every t-shirt my sorority has ever made. Ever.
And also every fraternity one. I have 37 t-shirts. (I counted.)
4. Two pairs of white high-top Converse, one pair of black high-top Converse, one pair of Vans, and one pair of Keds?
They all look the exact same?
5. An entire box of nail polishes, some that I’ve had since middle school.
Yes, they’re dried out and all ugly colors, yet I keep them.
6. Lots of blankets.
Lots. Cheetah print heated blanket, pink snuggie, red FSU blanket, another red FSU monogrammed blanket, a Costco blanket, obviously, and then a blue one that I stole from an airplane. Just in case it gets cold.
7. Five flannels.
One red and black, one green and blue, one green and black, one blue and black, and one gray and white. So that I can match literally every single thing I own with a flannel. Even though its currently 90 degrees. Fashion.
8. Black boots, brown boots, black heels, brown heels, black booties, brown booties, black wedges, brown wedges, black sandals, brown sandals, black flip flops, brown flip flops.
Some tan shoes, too. And gray, black, pink, and blue running shoes.
9. Jeans that I got from Hollister in 2009.
Sometimes, after a seven day fast, I can wear them. Not really sure why I have them, but I just like to have them.
10. A box of candles that I only burned halfway through because I liked the scent so much that I wanted to save it and then never lit it again, so I don’t really know what the point is.
Honestly, I’m going to go clean out my closet after all of this research. It’s stressing me out how much stuff I have in there. Specifically the shoe boxes, I really can't even reason with myself about those. Maybe I will burn candles while I clean.
