It is finally here, the long-awaited summer itself. While I'm from the Midwest, everyone should at least have these ten general things on their summer bucket list. We wait for summer all school year long and then end up wasting it away because we "don't have anything to do." While I completely recommend starting a new series on Netflix and watching Netflix for at least one full day, get out this summer and have some fun.
1. Find a beach.
Whether it be with your friends or by yourself, find a beach. Find a lake or an ocean and enjoy it. The beach can be so calming but at the same time be a party. Do both, it's summer. Get a book and take it to the beach and just sit there and read for a day. You would be so surprised on how calming and comfortable it is. On the other hand, go to the beach and throw a party with your friends.
2. Go to an outdoor movie.
This can either be an outdoor movie put on by the city, a friend, or even a drive-in. If you have a drive-in, I highly recommend it. An outdoor movie can be a great date night or just something to do with friends. Since it's summer and it's the only time you can do this, catch a movie outside.
3. Have a bonfire.
There's something about a bonfire that brings you back to the old ole days. Bonfires were a huge hit in high school and can still be. Absolutely nothing can go wrong when you have smores there. A bonfire is a great opportunity to have friends over and chill and converse over all the latest news.
4. Hang out with old friends.
Hang out with old friends while you can and keep in touch. Soon we will all be going into the real world and finding our way. Don't be so against hanging out with high school friends when you had some of your greatest memories with them. Who doesn't love reminiscing about your old crazy times and catching up on the new ones.
5. Go on a vacation.
This doesn't have to be expensive. Go on a vacation with some friends to the city next door. As long as you get out of town it is a vacation. Going on a vacation gives you the sense that you are away from all your problems for a little while.
6. Take a road trip.
This can go along with your vacation but it is so much more fun when it's a road trip. A stuffed car really shows who you are. There's just something about singing throwbacks at the top of your lungs with some of your closest friends.
7. Hang out with your family.
This is super underrated and it's also super sad. Hanging out with my family has been some of my best times. Once you get in college, hanging out with your parents as adults is a new experience. Once you get past all of the awkward questions it can be a fun time. They will always be there for a deep conversation or a joke that you need. Your parents will have fun with you because that's who you got it from.
8. Go to a concert.
Go to one concert or many concerts. Music is a great thing and has kept me sane throughout the years. It is amazing all of the great people that you can meet at a concert because they have at least one thing in common with you. Concerts are so care-free and enjoyable. There is also something about being so close to celebrities that are usually not that bad looking.
9. Go to a sporting event.
Although "sporting event" is a broad term, anything works. Be a super fan for a day and cheer on your favorite team. The atmosphere is unreal and is something you can truly have fun with if you are a true fan.
10. Try something new.
This is important. Try anything new whether it be food, sky diving, or a new hobby. It is summer and you have more time on your hands than usual so now is the time to try something you wouldn't during the school year. Who knows, you could find your next hobby or true love.
Summer is a great time and it shouldn't be just because of the weather. Live it up because before you know it the fall semester will be here to haunt us once again. Also, take tons of pictures or invest in a GoPro so you can reminisce on the good times once summer is over. Post a lot and annoy everyone on Instagram, it will be totally worth it in the end. Have a good summer everyone, you deserve it.
