Our parents are there from day one. They teach us some of the simplest things, like tying our shoes. As we grow, we tend to take everything they do for granted and sometimes we even expect it from them. Our parents are some of the most important people in our lives. We grow up and move out without ever thanking them. So, here's 10 out of the many, many reasons to thank our parents.
1. Thank you for shaping me into who I am today.
Without their influences, many of us wouldn't be who we turned out to be. I still wouldn't know how to properly say the word "elephant" or how to fill out a deposit slip.
2. Thank you for accepting my mistakes and helping me learn from them.
I've made more mistakes than I can count on my fingers and toes, but my parents have stuck by my side through them all. They've helped me overcome many of them, too.
3. Thank you for teaching me that some battles just aren't worth fighting.
Many people, myself included, think that you have to win because losing just isn't acceptable. This includes everything, from softball tournaments to the smallest argument. Some of those arguments aren't worth it.The benefit of winning isn't always worth the cost.
4. Thank you for giving me the space I need to grow.
Some parents can hover more than necessary, but at some point they have to step back and give us the room we need to become our own person. At some point in time, parents do and they get to watch us grow.
5. Thank you for dealing with some of my poor choices in friends (and boys).
Not all of us are professionals at picking the perfect friends, much less the perfect boy. So, thank you for letting me learn they were wrong for me on my own.
6. Thank you for teaching me how to do the everyday things.
If it weren't for my parents, I still wouldn't know how to pump gas or how to do laundry. I wouldn't even be able think about cooking.
7. Thank you for believing in me even when I had the worst ideas.
We all get those ideas that are fantastic at 3 a.m. and maybe even at 3 p.m. Well, they're fantastic to us—most people would think they're stupid except for our parents. Parents are the only people that will always support you, no matter how stupid you sound.
8. Thank you for loving me no matter how hard I may have made it.
Nobody's perfect. No one can be good at everything. So, being someone's kid isn't always the easiest. So this is just a thank you for loving me even when I let you down.
9. Thank you for standing up for me when I couldn't do it myself.
We can't always pick ourselves up after we fall. Sometimes we need a hand to get back up before we can get back in the game. Whether we are at our weakest or our strongest, parents are there to help.
10. Finally, thank you for always, always being there.
No matter how bad we mess up or how much we may hurt them, our parents are always there in the end.
We don't say it nearly as much as we should, so thank you for every single thing that you do.
