1) You’re going to find out who your real friends are.
Someone could start out with 10 “close friends” when freshman year starts. By the end of senior year, you may only have 5 of these “friends” left. Sometimes people grow apart and things happen and that is O.K.
2) Procrastination can get you in a lot of trouble.
Sure, it may be nice for a due date for that project to be in 2 weeks from when it was assigned, but that doesn’t mean you should wait until the night before to do said project (Trust me, I’ve done it a million times and it has never worked out like I planned in my head while doing the project at 3 in the morning). You’re going to end up very overwhelmed with trying to get everything done before school the next morning.
3) It’s O.K to not be like everyone else.
You’re probably always going to hear about all of the partys people went to and how drunk they got and what they did at the party. Don’t let this discourage you and make you feel bad because they were having “so much fun” and you were staying home binge-watching Netflix. I would take a night of Netflix over a party any day.
4) Your grades matter.
There is nothing wrong with taking the time to study for your huge test in Psychology, but you shouldn’t just “wing it”. If you get a bad grade on a test or an assignment, see what you can do about making that grade better. Bad grades will catch up to you by the end of the school year and can ultimately affect your transcript when you apply for things such as scholarships, grants, etc.
5) You’re going to have bad days.
There will definitely be days when it seems like nothing is going right. Bad days are inevitable and you have to focus on getting through the day. As the saying goes, “it may seem stormy now, but it never rains forever”.
6) Some people won’t matter once you graduate.
I know it seems like you can never get away from some people, but take it from someone who graduated last May- you’ll probably never see or talk to half of the people you saw every day in the hallway once you graduate.
7) Things are going to change and it’s unavoidable.
High school is full of change. You have to accept that you won’t do the same things for four years. You’ll change classes, change friends, and maybe even change your hair color. Change isn’t always a bad thing and you have to face it head on.
8) High school is more important than you think.
You should always try your hardest in school even when there are days when you feel like you can’t do anything. You’re going to be so glad when you apply to college that you worked hard and earned good grades.
9) The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.
Come on, I can’t be the only one remembers this fact from biology class. You may not know how to pay taxes, but you’ll always remember the good ole’ mitochondria.
10) It goes by fast.
When I was a freshman, I could’ve sworn that high school was going to drag by and some days that’s exactly what it felt like. But here I am now, a college freshman. High school was over in the blink of an eye. Enjoy it while it lasts.
