Being a student-athlete isn't just a title, it is a lifestyle. You spend your days lifting, practicing, and going to class. During season, you feel like your title should be changed to athlete-student because you literally live and breathe your sport. Even though being a student-athlete can create lots of stress, you wouldn't give up a minute of playing the sport you love for anything.
1. After you do one bench press.
You're basically ripped.
2. Going to class after lifting or practice every day.
You've basically accepted that you will never look like an actual human being in any of your classes. To be honest, even if you didn't play a sport, you'd probably still look like a hobo. At least you can use sports as an excuse.
3. When coach says, "Get on the line."
Hearing these words automatically cause your stomach to drop and your heartbeat to heighten. What did you ever do to deserve this?
4. After you pass your conditioning test.
You've officially reached peak physical fitness, so now it's time to eat every single food that enters your line of sight.
5. When you make one bad play.
It's the end of the world. There goes my spot. Why am I even allowed to put a uniform on?
6. Conditioning usually involves an activity where you have to carry a partner.
Partner V-ups, partner lunges, partner drags. The possibilities are endless.
7. When your coach tells you good job.
You don't know what alternate universe you've entered, but you're not going to question it. You don't know what to say, so your response is generally in the form of word vomit.
8. Trying to hold back your laughter when one of your teammates makes a funny comment during a team meeting.
If coach hears you laughing, you're going to get put on the spot in front of the whole team. Hopefully they don't hear you so you can avoid some form of running punishment for your shenanigans.
9. When you get a day off practice and actually wear your hair down to class.
You look flawless. Heads turn as you walk to class (at least you'd like to think so). The lunch lady even tells you she didn't recognize you today because your hair is down.
10. When your non-athlete friends ask you what you're going to do when you can't play your sport anymore.
If you don't talk about it or acknowledge it's going to happen, it'll never happen, right? *nervous laughter*
