Let’s be real, there are two types of people in this world: those who go to the gym more regularly than they attend class, and those who decide to “check it out” a few times each year (typically immediately following January 1st, and in the two weeks leading up to Spring Break).
For those of us who fall into the latter category, the gym is a daunting place. The sounds of weights dropping to the floor every five seconds eerily resembles the sounds of a factory manufacturing the robots that will one day take over the world, the moaning and groaning reverberating from every corner of the gym causes you to wonder if you just stepped onto the set of 50 Shades of Grey, and the countless, perfectly toned individuals rocking their spandex make you feel like a bottle of Two Buck Chuck that somehow got mixed in with the fanciest of champagnes.
Despite everything going against you, you prepare to give it your all. “FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT,” you tell yourself as you lace up your colorful Nike Free’s, which have yet to be broken in. You enter the SRC, hand the student manning the desk your OneCard, and commence your workout, only to encounter the following problems:
1. Trying to remember how to stretch.
2. Picking a machine? Where to even begin....
3. A general lack of coordination that makes you a hazard to everyone in your Zumba class.
4. A short attention span that prevents you from spending more than two minutes on any single machine.
5. Overconfidence that may lead to you quite literally taking on more than you can handle.
6. Being further distracted by that hottie with a body at 2 o'clock.
7. Not even understanding how to use half of the equipment...
8. Lacking an adequate pump-up workout playlist.
9. Working out next to the person who's in peak physical condition, and your just like:
10. Ultimately succumbing to the realization that exercise will never be at the top of your priorities list.
