Somehow, summer has come to a close and it's time for college kids to begin packing up their things, saying their goodbyes, and start another stressful and exciting year at college. Some are thrilled to headed back, while others are sentimental freshmen or seniors. But before the year can begin, we all must actually get to school. And before that can happen, we have to do that dreaded task. The one that brings on the type of panic and stress that is only mirrored by finals week. It's time to pack. Despite those few rare exceptions, most college kids go through the following 10 Stages of Packing.
1. The stage where you don't pack.
This is the stage with the perfect balance of bliss and anxiety. You know you should be packing, but you pick the more appealing option of not packing.
2. The stage where you clean your room.
This is when you try to clean your room and make sense of your belongings because you never really unpacked when you moved home to begin with.
3. The stage where you make small clumps of various items and pretend that that is packing.
You know what I mean with this stage. It's the shifting of garbage piles, the gathering of a pair of shoes, the moving of a notebook from one corner of the room to the other.
4. The errand stage.
This is the $300 Target run stage.
5. The moving of larger clumps to various parts of your room and house stage.
This is the stage where you move most of your possessions out of your sight so you feel better about your progress.
6. The rest stage.
This is the stage where you relax after doing minimal work to prepare for the minimal work that you will do later.
7. The S.O.S. (Stressed. Out. Stage.)
This is the cry for help phase. There are tears, there are arguments, there are more tears.
8. The sentimental stage.
This is when you look through all of your belongings. It begins with a harmless couple of pictures and trinkets and ends with you analyzing a picture that you drew in first grade of a flower near some type of unidentifiable mammal.
9. The stage where you don't pack.
Yes, this is a reoccurring phase.
10. The stage where you get your sh** together...literally.
This is the stage that happens within the last 24 hours before you move in. This is when you actually do the packing of things and the throwing of piles into the car.
