I have never been so stressed out by a non-school thing than I was during game seven last Wednesday. But the real struggle was being away from home. As a girl from Chicago (yes, actually from the city, not the suburbs), I wanted nothing more than to be in my city celebrating and cheering on the Cubs. I still remember going to my first Cubs games when I was in second grade, and from then on, they've been my team. These are the 10 stages of watching the World Series at college.
1. "OMG they did it. They're in the World Series!!!!"
WHY AM I NOT IN CHICAGO RIGHT NOW???
2. Seeing all the flags up in dorm windows.
I FOUND MY PEOPLE. I guess Kenosha really isn't that far from Chicago.
3. Getting to game 5 and praying for a win.
4. Having your professor who knows you're from Chicago ask you about the series.
This is how I feel right now.
5. Watching the first inning of game 7.
6. Growing more and more frustrated as Shaw walked Rizzo and Russell.
Put me in coach, put me in. (Something about his expression just speaks to my frustration level during the game)
7. Going into the tenth inning.
Me too Rizzo, me too.
8. Screaming at the last play of the game.
I've never seen a more beautiful smile.
9. Running into a Cleveland fan on campus after game 7.
I'm internally chanting "Indians blew a 3-1 lead" and enjoying every second of it.
10. Skipping class to go to the parade.
Because we waited 108 years for this, and honestly I didn't do my homework anyway.
