10 Reasons Why Your Mom Is Your Absolute Best Friend
Jackie Berchtein

Whether it was when I was 5 years old or now when I am 19, I can always remember my mom being my best friend. There's only one person who is always invested in your happiness and that is your mother. Having someone who is not only just your friend but your mom—tell me, is there anything better than that? There are many reasons why my mom is a best friend but here are a couple of the main ones.

1. She will always defend you.

Even in the times when I was definitely wrong, she was there to find a way to make it that I am right. Like that time in pre-school when I decided to hit a girl with a bucket in the face, my mom still found me to be the best child and claim that mistakes like this did happen. My mom's power to defend me was never a doubt in my mind.

2. In the winter, she's the one who reminds you to wear a jacket and a hat.

As much as I hated the hats my mom gave me when I was little, and the amount of times she told me to wear a jacket, who else cares as much as your mom that you are warm and not going to get sick?

3. She will do everything to make you feel special and important.

If you're like me and talk to your mom at least three times a day there is always some sort of stories or drama I am telling her. Even if she doesn't care or get it she always finds a way to understand and help me feel better. Coming home from college is like a holiday because your mom does everything in the world to make you feel like mommy's little princess.

4. She keeps all of your secrets

A mother-daughter bond is simply irreplaceable. You can tell her anything and everything and know that she will never tell anyone.

5. Sh knows you better than you know yourself.

Of course, there are times in life when you're in a bad mood but don't want others knowing why you're in that bad mood. Your mom is an exception because she will know you're upset or in a bad mood before you even realize you are.

6. Hanging out with her is sometimes more fun than your friends.

I can admit that there have been many times when I have ditched plans with my friends to just watch a movie with my mom or simply have a girls night. There is nothing that makes me happier than hanging out with my mom.

7. You ask her about every decision before you make it.

Sorry mom, I know this annoys you. But why would I buy these jeans if you don't like them? Why would I do this if this isn't something you would do?

8. She's your twin.

I am literally the same person as my mom. Luckily I was blessed with such an amazing mom and have basically an older version of myself in my life that I hope to be exactly like when I'm older.

9. You can brag about her.

"Mommy! She's so cute." If you ask my friends how many times a day I say this, they probably won't be able to count it.

10. She's your rock and you know you would be nowhere without her.

I hope I never have to see what life is like without her. Love you always mama. Thanks for everything you do for me!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
