There is something captivating about the beach...the soft, warm sand, the calm waves, the cool air. Whenever I'm upset, the beach always has my back, reminding me that my problems aren't as serious as they feel.
Here are the top 10 reasons why I love the beach:
1. It's comforting.
Laying in the warm sand, walking along the ocean, listening to the roaring waves--what's more calming than that?
2. It's a perfect setting for a date.
The beach always makes a great date spot. You can play sports, swim, fish, surf, walk, lounge, watch the sunrise, etc. So many options with great scenery! My favorite date was in Myrtle Beach with my boyfriend this summer; we climbed a lifeguard stand late one night and sat together under the full moon reflecting off the water. I will never forget that moment.
3. It makes working out easy and exciting.
Running or walking on the beach is way more fun than running around the block 10 times. There's always a nice breeze and you can cool off in the water whenever you're feeling overheated. Time also passes much quicker when you've got tons of gorgeous land to explore. And you don't even need shoes! I woke up early a few times on vacation this summer and ran through the water just as the sun was rising--I didn't even realize how many miles I covered until I checked my Fitbit; I was too busy enjoying myself (and normally I hate running...).
4. It's a beautiful form of nature.
The ocean always leaves me enchanted with its wondrous depths and mysterious creatures. And don't get me started on the soft, warm sand...I could sit there for hours and only fall more in love.5
5. It's inspiring.
Whenever I'm experiencing writer's block, I know exactly where to go. Simply looking at the ocean can spike the most unique ideas for stories. poetry, and more. Being able to distance myself from others and connect with nature is the best form of pre-writing.6
6. It's great for both isolating yourself and mingling with others.
I'm all for people-watching and mingling with large crowds of happy faces, but I am also very much an introvert. I need some "me" time at least once a day. Luckily, the beach offers the best of both worlds, bringing tons tourists while remaining still and relaxing. If you've never sat alone on the beach, you should really try it...it's a wonderful place to find yourself.
7. It's entertaining for all ages.
There are lists of lists of things to do on the beach, ranging from playing games like Cornhole and Kan Jam to flying kites and having picnics with books and journals.
8. It's like medicine for the mind.
Whenever I'm feeling anxious (which is most of the time), upset, stressed, confused, etc...I always drive myself to the nearest beach (even though it's an hour away from my town). Standing next to the vast ocean makes me realize how small my problems are and how much more is out there. It's like instant relief, feeling the cool air, and listening to the music of the waves. In those moments, I know I'm not alone.
9. Storms are intriguing on the beach.
I have always loved thunderstorms, but there is absolutely nothing more beautiful than dark clouds and bright lighting striking the water. When the waves grow rough, it reminds me that even the most beautiful creations lose control sometimes.
10. The moon, sunset, and sunrise (depending on your location) is incredible over the water.
You know how I just stated that absolutely nothing is more beautiful than storms on the beach? Well, the same goes for the moon, sunrise, and sunset.
Basically, everything is better at the beach...
