10 Reasons Why My Mom Is My Hero
Briana Mitchell

My mom is a pretty special person. I have never met anyone like her and I am blessed to have her as my mother. I consider myself the luckiest daughter, and if you know her, I would consider you pretty lucky too.

1. I Can Come To Her With ANYthing.

Regardless of what is going on, I know my mom will give me her full attention and listen. I have been through quite a lot lately, and I must say, my mom is the first person I call and my favorite person to confide in.

2. I Am Inspired By Her.

My mom is the most loving and caring person I know. Time and time again I see her go out of her way for my sister. She makes me want to be the best me.

3. She Loves Me Unconditionally.

No matter what I have done or where I am at in life, my mom showers me with love. My mom loves my sister and I more than anyone else on this planet-- she would do anything for us. I am so unbelievably lucky to have a mother that loves me no matter what and as much as she does.

4. She Cares For Me, A Lot.

My mom does everything and anything she can to help me. She shows me she cares about me in so many ways. From giving me advice, to helping me with finding an apartment and car shopping she has helped me along the way. She cares for me, so much.

5. She Gives The Best Hugs.

There is nothing I look forward to more than hugging my mom. After a long day and being away from her it is all I want. My mom is the best hugger around and sometimes all I need to refocus.

6. She Is My Number One Fan.

My mom has always encouraged me to do what would make me happiest, and she has always been on the sidelines while I did it. I cannot remember a softball game or school event that my mom did not attend. When I needed to dig deeper, she was there cheering me on. She is my number one cheerleader.

7. She Can Point Me In The Right Direction.

Whether it had to do with school, my career, or moving away, my mom gave me advice and is always able to point me in the right direction. I count on her for her wisdom and I am lucky to have her and her advice.

8. She Knows Me Better Than I Know Myself.

My mom knows what is going on with me before I even tell her. Whether I am sad, happy, or upset, she knows before I even get the chance to say it.

9. She Is Selfless.

My mom is one of the most selfless people I know. If I need something, she drops what she's doing and helps me. If I need help, she's happy to. She plans her life around my sister and I, and I am so lucky to have her as my mother.

10. She Is The Best Teacher.

She has taught me how to love and how to become a strong, independent woman.

Mom, you are the most amazing person I know. You love me no matter what. You have raised me into a fearless and loving woman. I cannot imagine my life without you, as you are my biggest motivator. You know me like the back of your hand. I am SO lucky to have you. I love you more than you know.

Love always,

Me

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
