Why Freshman Year Rules

Freshman year of college is one of the most memorable times in a person's life. That day your parents help you move into your room remains a crystal clear memory in your head while you begin to pack up for the summer. Meeting all new people in a brand new place that is college, proves to be one of the most nerve-wracking, thrilling, entertaining and exciting things to ever happen to us. The first taste of freedom is so sweet that you'll never forget it. And that freedom of freshman year is what allows you to create all of the incredible memories. As I say goodbye to the halls of my freshman dorm, halls that hold so many memories and have seen so much happen, I find myself wishing I could be a freshman forever. Here are some reasons why.

You meet friends who will help you through everything.

You are living off of social interactions and there are people all around you, so you naturally and instantly connect with many different people. The friends you get close with are there when you are having the best moments of your year, and the worst. These friends you make are like family, which just makes the good times with them even better. Your roommate is one of those people who get you through each day. Living with a roommate is actually one of the best parts of freshman year, as you listen to each other and are there for each other through the wild ride of the first year.

You are independent.

You have to make your own decisions and you have a lot of responsibility. But in the same breath, it is the best freedom in the world. You can decide to spend the day however you want after class. It feels wonderful to live your daily life at your own discretion. If you want to party every weekend until the wee hours of the morning you can! If you want to watch Netflix for hours on end, you can also do that!

You learn many, many lessons.

With everything being brand new and unfamiliar, you are bound to make some mistakes along the way as you begin this new journey. Sometimes, you have to learn from mistakes, but what you learn is so important to finding yourself in college. Of course change can bring highs and lows, but you sometimes learn more about yourself when you are lost. There are moments when you feel lost and moments when you find yourself. Freshman year is the first time when you are on your own to learn these lessons. The experiences you have help you to grow as a person and discover who you are and what you want.

Change turns out to be a great thing.

Many things change about your life during freshman year. You realize that it is up to you to be successful, whether that means excelling academically or getting your laundry done. Living on campus and being submerged in your school's culture is intimidating at first, but ends up being so much fun. Eating dining hall food is something you just get used to, and some fun times happen at squad dinners. All of the things you are scared about going into freshman year, end up being the best things about the year when you choose to embrace the changes.

Some of the best memories are your first memories.

The things you do as a freshman are always so exciting because you have never done them before. Living in a dorm in itself is a place where so many hilarious memories are made. A lot of the best times are had during freshman year when you are new to everything and everyone. These memories will last a lifetime.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
