We've almost hit our midpoint of summer. The excitement of seeing hometown friends has lowered to a simmer and our parents are no longer telling us they're glad we're home. We like to think of summers of today the way we used to when we were in middle school and even high school. Now it seems like work or retaking that class is the main focus - and your parents won't let you hear the end of it. Along with the many other factors of mid-summer-itis, at least we all share agreement in the fact that we are, indeed, stuck in the a summer funk.
Here are some of the reasons why.
1) You're over your internship.
Summer doesn’t have the same ring it used to when it meant work is done and time to play. College summers consist of summer school, resume building, and scoring that internship you worried about all last semester. After a month more more in a cubicle, you’re over it.
2) You've gotten over the hump of your summer workout.
From spring break onward we all said we were planning to shed the pounds - and even acted excited about it! We maybe typed in "easy healthy recipes" on Pinterest a couple times. After week one, motivation is gone and we'r craving the greasy college menu again.
3) Your parents are way past annoying.
4) It's harder to go out at night.
At school, it’s easy to lay in bed until 9 pm until your friends convince you to go out. You throw something on and walk down the road for a party with your people. At home, unless you’re going to party with your 70-year-old neighbor (bless her soul) or the family of 5 with youngsters that have to be in bed by 7, you aren’t exactly looking at a bunch of crazy nights out this summer.
5) You lack structure in your days.
For some people this is something they like. But others cant stand the non-routine lifestyle. Over the summer, everyone’s on a different schedule. So planning that trip to the lake with your friends? Nearly impossible.
6) You finished your Netflix binge.
The nights sitting up until 4 a.m. watching your current show obsession needed to come to an end some day. Except now, there's an obvious lack of excitement that you have during the day because you aren’t looking forward to sitting in bed that night and finding out who cheated on who during cold air gossip.
7) Everyone is traveling while you travel to the couch.
You’re almost scared to check Instagram because you can't stand thought of seeing one more beach picture from one of your friends. In the meantime, it's quarter to one and you've moved from bed to the couch.
8) You miss the campus coffee shop you're obsessed with.
Your study hut, meeting place, and sometimes hiding spot. You miss being walking distance from your most desired vanilla latte.
9) You’re having withdrawls from your house chef.
If you’re like me, you’ve made a strong bond with your house chef and the amazingly carb-filled food he provided. Mom is still trying to put you through a college detox and you can’t have one more of her “filling” salads for lunch. You'll find yourself sneaking extra scoops of ice cream and stashing bagels in your room.
10) You miss your school friends.
If you’re out of state, you won’t be able to attend most of the reunions that your sorority sisters have while home. The distance is killing you, and there’s over a month left before you take on the campus again. You just miss scarfing down a large pizza and getting into shenanigans with them at 3 in the morning.
