Summer. Nothing like three whole months of nothing to do with school. You're away from everything you've known for months and months but it's about time for a little relaxation and adventuring, but moving home after months of freedom is never easy for college kids and there are many mixed thoughts that go through our minds as we begin to acclimate to the new environment.

1. School is out!

No more school, no more homework, no more all-nighters. What am I supposed to do with all of this free time? We've got three whole months away from school and books. Even summer classes don't sound as terrible as regular school does.

2. What? Chores?

Chores? What are those? I mean, when you live in your own house and have to do laundry and dishes it's less grueling than when your parents assign duties around the house. There can be a big difference between parents' version of freedom and your own. But hey, it's only three months, right?

3. Where are my friends?!

You go nine months living and going to class with your people. These are your humans that you do life with all school year, what are you going to do without them? Thank goodness for Snapchat, texting, and last minute, random road trips to see each other.

4. There's so much to do before summer ends.

Reorganizing, crossing off books on your reading list, laying out, and catching up on everything you've procrastinated on during the school year. Whatever it is, three months just doesn't seem long enough, but hey, we've got all summer, right?

5. Will unpacking ever end?

How did this much stuff fit into such a small place for the whole year. Where did it all come from? You feel as if the unpacking will never end and there is no possible place for everything to fit. Thank goodness for hand-me-downs and garage sales.

6. Hello, high school friends!

Hmm, high school... one good thing from those crazy four years is that there's always high school friends that stand by you all through college. Summer is a perfect time to catch up on all of the hours and stories you haven't had time to tell each other.

7. No time for naps?

Working full time, running errands, or whatever else cuts down on your sacred nap time. But who needs naps? Summer's too short to nap the whole thing away, right?

8. What hobby should I pick up this summer?

There's adventures, books, camping, sports and so much more to take up your time this summer. You've got three months to do it everything you've ever wanted to do and haven't had time to do during the crazy year

9. Is this countdown until summer ends or until school starts?

Summer, it's a love/hate relationship. You are stuck all summer between wanting to enjoy your time at home and wanting to go back to the college life. Your heart's in two places. Home means relaxation and free time. School means friends, freedom and of course, school. It's all about a balancing game and enjoying where you're at no matter how long you're there.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
