10 Reasons Why High School Friends Will Always Have Your Back

One of the biggest challenges when coming to college is leaving your high school friends behind. Some of them have been with you everyday since Kindergarten and the thought of parting ways with them is definitely scary. But even though you may not physically be with your high school friends at college and beyond, you are can rest easy because you know they will always be there for you. Here are 10 reasons why high school friends will always have your back.

1. They come from the same place. For me and my friends, we will always be natives of our town and we will always bleed green because those were our high school colors and that’s where our roots are. We cheered each other on at sporting events and gave each other standing ovations in school musicals, we encouraged each other at DECA meets and applauded one another at band concerts. No one else will understand your hometown like your best friends from high school and why it’s so special to you and for that reason they will always have your back.

2. They grew up with you. From taking classic classes such as freshman english to more, let’s say advanced classes like sex ed, you truly grew as a person with all of your high school friends by your side. While they stayed up with you and studied for tests over video chat or skipped lunch to go to the library with you, you grew up with your high school friends outside the classroom as well. You faced the hardships of life together like losing a loved one or getting rejected from your top college. But your high school friends will always support you because they helped you through these times and learned all about life with you.

3. They experienced your high school crushes with you. Your high school friends were there for the highs and the lows, the awful blunders you want to forget and the amazing nights you will always remember. They helped you analyze every text, figure out what to wear to school, and even what flirty messages to send. They always did their best to help you in any way they could because for them making you happy made them happy especially when it came to your crush. And of course, your high school friends were always there to help with you with awkward encounters like googling how to get rid of a hickey the week before prom or figuring out what to do when the person you made out with had an allergic reaction.

4. They know everything about you. Every single detail. I mean why wouldn’t they? You were together for six hours straight every single day in class and when you got home you either texted them or video chatted with them. They know all your secrets and your flaws and now you can’t not be friends with them because the blackmail they have on you would ruin your life … only kidding … maybe. But seriously, because you spent so much time with your high school friends, literally every single day for six hours straight together, they know you better than anyone else. They can tell when you’re stressed, when you’re excited, or when you just need to be by yourself. Your high school friends will always have your back because they know what you love and the things you hate. They know your story and why you are you and they still love you.

5. They experienced your awkward stage and are still friends with you. While many people think middle school consisted of the prime awkward years, we were all still pretty weird in high school, too. But through all of the weird haircuts, braces, spray tans and much more, your high school friends still stuck it out with you. They embraced your strange choice of styles and made it over the hill to the better more normal part of your life with you … even though you’re still pretty weird, but your friends still love you for it.

6. They were there for every first. Your high school friends were there the first time you drank alcohol, the first time you tried to sneak it past your parents, and of course, the first time you puked from drinking too much alcohol. They were there for your first kiss, your first drive around town with your license and your first college acceptance. They experienced a lot of firsts with you that are irreplaceable and can only truly be experienced for the first time once. Firsts can be scary, exciting, or maybe a little bit of both, but either way your high school friends will always have your back because they were there for every single one of them.

7. They provided you with another family. Even now you still treat their siblings like your own and you can easily say their house is yours, too. You eat the food out of their fridge without even thinking about it and maybe you even text their moms when yours isn’t around. So not only will your high school friends always be there for you, but their parents and siblings will, too.

8. They know all of your embarrassing stories and will never let you forget them. Even though you’d love to forget that time you fell down the stairs in the history wing freshman year of high school, your best friends will never forget that and will constantly make fun of you for it. All the time. Even when they’ve laughed about it over and over, it keeps getting funnier to them. And five years from now they will still think it’s funny. But that’s what best friends are for … to make fun of you and remind you that no one is perfect.

9. They’re 95% of the reason you’re excited to go home (naturally the other 5% are food related reasons). While you may just sit in someone’s basement or go out to eat together, just seeing your high school friends and being with them doing absolutely nothing is one of the most exciting things. You know you can relax and be yourself without being judged and you can’t wait to tell them all of the stories and updates about your life.

10. They still make you laugh even from 1,000 miles away. Your high school friends will always have your back because just seeing a text from them can make your whole day better. A simple “I miss you” text will give you an even bigger smile then five people from school asking to get lunch with you. Whether it’s something serious or a funny story, no matter how far they are, they will always want to talk to you. And whether you Facetime once a month or text almost everyday, high school friends will never fail to make you smile. They come from the same place, know every detail about you, and even lived through your awkward stage with you, so of course, your high school friends will always have your back.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
