Summer has come to a close, which means the start of fall and everything that goes along with it. Football may be one of the first things most people think of, but some others simply can't wait for something else. That something happens to be hockey. For many hockey fans, the next month can't go by quick enough. We are aching to cheer on our team and go crazy like hockey fans do best. One of the most exhilarating sports around, hockey draws old and young together to cheer on the family team. Here are a few reasons that we are particularly excited for hockey season:
1. Waking up and remembering that it's game day.
It's just one of the best feelings ever. You then create a countdown on your phone because you simply can't wait. And then you proceed to check your phone every hour.
2. Planning your schedule around said game.
You have to do what you have to do. Hockey trumps one's social life every time. Priorities, right?
3. Representing your team all day.
Who cares about fashion. . . . It's game day! You disregard the eye rolls from your non-hockey fan friends and feel a connection with the random stranger on the street sporting your team's gear as well.
4. Turning on the TV and hearing your favorite announcers again.
You develop a special bond with the guys who bring your team's game to life on TV. Your Friday nights were never the same without them.
5. Seeing your guys skate onto the ice again.
It's just such an overwhelming feeling. From team captain to goalie, you're excited to see your favorites return, and welcome the newcomers to the team.
6. Experiencing an NHL goal celebration.
With their originality and passion, hockey celebrations outrank every other sport. They're just so insanely happy.
7. Hockey hugs.
Enough said. Hockey hugs all around!
8. Those overtime nail biters.
We try to keep it together, we really do. But it usually just doesn't happen. It is an extremely stressful ordeal, let's be honest.
9. Losing your mind during shootouts.
It is virtually impossible to keep one's cool during shootouts. A loss in a shootout is like a bad dream most fans try to forget.
10. Once again losing your mind when your team wins.
No words can describe the feeling of ecstasy when your team wins. These feelings are worth all the sweat, tears, and nail biting every single time.
Fear not, hockey fans, October will be here soon enough, and we can once again cheer on our guys with all of the excitement we are known for. We have survived a long, grueling summer without hockey, and soon enough we will be reunited with our favorite team for a new, exciting hockey season!
