10 Random Facts About Me

Having a bit of writers block last night I decided to open up a book of writing prompts that I have and came across a page that said to name five things that no one knows about you. So today, I decided to write about things you may or may not know about me, some of which are pretty funny. So sit back, enjoy and get to know me!

1. I don't dot my i's or j's. When I was in the 7th grade I noticed that the dots over my i's wouldn't line up exactly and it drove me insane, so I would end up crossing out the word and rewriting it five times until it was perfect. One day I decided that I would just stop dotting them all together, and since then I have not dotted an i or j.

2. I didn't know how to spell my middle name until the 8th grade. My middle name is rather long and for some reason I never really learned how to spell it correctly until I was in the 8th grade when someone asked me.

3. I hate cream cheese. I hate it so much, I think it's the most disgusting thing in the world and even the smell makes me want to gag. I also hate peas and mushrooms. Mushrooms taste like flat out poison and even if they are just very slightly flavoring a dish, I can tell they're in there, and I hate it. I also hate peas. They squish weird and taste horrible.

4. I am terrified of throwing up. It's not just that I hate throwing up, I genuinely am afraid of it, or anyone throwing up for that matter. I constantly think someone around me who is coughing is going to throw up and as soon as I get nauseous I get nervous, which makes me more nauseous, which turns into an endless cycle. Also when I do throw up I get panic attacks so there's that too.

5. My biggest fears include (but are not limited to): large buildings, animatronics, killer whales, large replicas of things, Christmas decorations, large rooms, high ceilings and animal heads mounted on walls. These are all actual fears I did not make any of these up and they each have a specific moment from which they stemmed. Maybe one day I'll share those moments, or maybe not because they are pretty ridiculous.

6. I am also terrified of dying in a fire, this goes back to second grade when I saw a house burn down on TV once. Since then I've been very careful when it comes to fire safety around my house.

7. When I lock my door to my house I have to check it three times in a row and if I get interrupted I have to unlock the door, look inside, and then lock the door again and check it three times in a row.

8. When I was little I had a reoccurring dream about a moose that was trying to kill me and the Backstreet Boys. (Most of my dreams are actually as odd as this one) I also can imitate a moose sound perfectly, I did this once on accident.

9. I love makeup and playing with makeup, but I have absolutely no idea how to use it. I've tried watching YouTube tutorials, I've tried to practice time and time again, but I really am just not good at makeup. For some reason I continue to buy tons and tons of makeup though.

10. Relating to point number 5, I am also terrified of It's A Small World. Yes, the ride in Disney World. This one actually stems from my Christmas decorations fear. When I was younger, my parents, brother and I would always drive around looking at Christmas decorations. My favorite house was the one fully decorated with a giant scene of It's A Small World in the front yard. One night, the owners must not have been home because the lights for the display were off, except for the standard lawn lights. We went outside to see the display anyway and instead of the dolls I've come to know and love, they were demonic repossessed tiny humans looking directly into my souls saying they were going to kill me. (I'm serious that totally happened) Anyway, years later when I was 19 my family and I went to Disney World for the first time. My mom really wanted to go on the It's A Small World ride and my brother and father didn't want to, so, being the wonderful daughter I am, I went with her. This will never happen again because it combined all of my fears. Floating from gigantic room to the next gigantic room, all with taller ceilings than the previous, animatronic dolls singing in close proximity, large replicas of animatronic animals, and to top it off we were in a tiny boat which meant a giant killer whale could come out of nowhere and attack me. Also that room is a giant fire hazard.

So there you have it, 10 not so attractive facts about me that I hope got you to know me a little bit better, and maybe even made you laugh a little!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
