So, Donald Trump is officially going to be our 44th president (Interesting aside: People always refer to Obama as the 44th, but that only works if Grover Cleveland is counted twice since he was president, lost, and was elected again later). If you're not happy about Supreme Overlord Trump's election, here are fifteen movies to get you more in the necessary mindset for the next four(?) years (let's be honest though, there aren't going to be elections anymore under Supreme Overlord Trump, so this is for life):
1. The Purge: Election Year
This movie, inspired by the 2016 election, is an obvious choicee for this list. The most fun part about watching this movie though, is that the 2016 election was somehow crazier than anything the writers of The Purge: Election Year came up with.
2. The Hunger Games
Children fighting to the death on live TV for the entertainment of the government—Why can't this be reality, you say? Don't despair anymore. In a few years, the annual Hunger Games will replace fireworks at Fourth of July. Christmas, of course, will be marked by the annual purge.
3. Mean Girls
Donald Trump thinks he's Regina George. Just to be clear, he's not even Gretchen.
4. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
If this was the first election you voted in, Trump's cameo in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York was probably the first time you encountered him. What's most worrisome about this movie is how unconcerned he is about a young Kevin Mccallister wandering around New York alone. Basically, he showed bad judgment early on.
5. Idiocracy
This movie, set in the year 2505, is based on the premise that the average intelligence of humans has decreased so much that Joe, a man of exactly average intelligence who was part of a government experiment that caused him to hibernate for hundreds of years, is now the smartest man in the world. You might relate to Joe.
6. Citizen Kane
Let's let Trump himself pick one for the list with this one. Trump has cited Citizen Kane as his favorite movie multiple times, and this quote from the movie probably sums up why he relates: "(talking about Charlie Kane) I don’t suppose anybody ever had so many opinions. But he never believed in anything except Charlie Kane. He never had a conviction except Charlie Kane in his life.”
7.Gone With the Wind
Was this when America great? Trump seems to think so, as he has listed Gone With The Wind as one of his all-time favorite movies. Check it out—it might just be the idyllic American dream you didn't realize you needed. Let's make America great(white) again.
8. Napoleon Dynamite
Because we need a movie where the best candidate wins the popular vote and actually wins the election.
Hey, Donald! What do you think of this list?
Good luck, everyone!
