10 Things I Love About Fall

Reasons why fall is my favorite time of the year!

The first day of fall has passed and October is here! Autumn has always been my favorite season. Here are some reasons (besides my birthday being in fall) that I love the season so much:

The leaves change colors.

If you’re from New York State, you know that fall is the most beautiful time of the year. The changing of the leaves makes it the best time to hike or visit a park.

Pumpkin coffee.

The #TeamPSL love is real. It’s not just Starbucks making this happen, though. Local and chain coffee shops all over are embracing the pumpkin coffee craze. And quite frankly I don’t blame them. We wait all year for this.

Pumpkin flavored everything else.

Each Fall my kitchen is stocked with pumpkin granola bars, yogurt, cookies, coffee creamer, popcorn, pretzels, candy, and more. Anything that tastes like pumpkin is a good thing to eat.

Apple picking.

Apples come in a close second place to pumpkins. Apple picking in beautiful orchards is another one of my favorite fall activities. I love sampling cider, fritters, and apples right off the tree!

Carving pumpkins.

Although I lack artistic ability, I love trying to make a semi-decent jack-o-lantern. Roasting the pumpkin seeds afterward is an added bonus.

Haunted hayrides and haunted houses.

It’s not Halloween season until I’ve been to at least one haunted house. And with so many great ones in the area, I can go to a new one almost every weekend! Two of my favorites are Haunted Hayrides of Greater Rochester and Fright Night at the Fair in Syracuse, New York.

Bonfires.

There’s nothing like getting cozy at a bonfire with friends on a chilly fall evening. Hot cider is a must!

Cozy cardigans and scarves.

As much as I love hot weather and cute bathing suits, I am always so excited to pull out any of my 40+ scarves and at least a dozen cardigans.

Picking a Halloween costume.

Honestly, this is one of the most important decisions I make all year. I usually start brainstorming in Summer but come Fall I am meticulously gathering costume pieces for the big day.

And last but certainly not least…

Halloween.

I wait for this day all year. Although for me it’s not just a day, but a solid couple weeks of festivities. From decorating, to fall food, to tacky Halloween pins and earrings, I am ready to celebrate!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
