The sorority Zeta Tau Alpha has many different means of philanthropy. The chosen philanthropy nationally is break cancer awareness. Zeta Tau Alpha even has their own foundation. How many sororities can say that? There are many programs and events held by hundreds of chapters across the United States.
One of the most well known programs is Breast Cancer Awareness in the NFL. ZTA is an official outreach partner of the National Football League. The sorority paired with the Washington Redskins in the year 1999, marking the very first National Football League Think Pink® game. Zeta is involved with "A Crucial Catch" campaign to spread the message of breast cancer awareness to professional football fans. Every team from the NFL is involved. Many of the players wear pink gloves or other articles of clothing representing breast cancer awareness.
I am a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, and something our chapter does specifically is an annual cookout. Just last week, we also held our first Charity Softball tournament, Striking Out Cancer. The softball tournament raised around $5,000 for breast cancer awareness. Eleven out of Twelve of the Panhellenic Fraternities participated and nine out of ten of the Panhellenic Sororities. It brought out some of the friendly competitiveness in everyone and was a huge success. The cookout will be taking place on Sunday, April 12th. All the members of our sorority will be making hamburgers and hot dogs in order to raise money for our philanthropy; tickets are available from any active sister.
Some smaller programs or things include breast cancer awareness ribbons at local events and around campuses across the world. We as a chapter have held percentage nights at places such as Chick-fil-A and Sweet Frog, where a portion of the profits during certain hours is given to charity. Other of our activities include wearing pink on certain days and honoring breast cancer awareness month by simply spreading the word.
