Well, it's that time of year again. If you're reading this, you've hit the mid-semester stress wall.

This means the homework is piling up, right as the weather starts to get decent again. This means your professors got together, had some lunch, and talked about throwing tests and assignments at you all at once.

Through these moments, we must remember to take care of ourselves, before it gets to be out of hand. It's important. If you're struggling through the semester, take into consideration these 10 helpful self-care techniques.

1. Watch your favorite movie.

Whenever you need it, find trust in your favorite film. Whether it's a romance or a comedy, your favorite movie should always cheer you up!

2. Exercise!

Going to the gym or running on the treadmill can really take you away from your current stress. Focus on your breathing and stay on track. You'll feel great afterward!

3. Call your family or a friend.

Call your mom or dad. Call your best friend. This should make you feel good because it can take you away from reality. Family and friends make everything better. They are forever, but this stress is temporary.

4. Take a hot shower or a warm bath.

Stand there under the warm water and feel it run down your back. Close your eyes and focus on nothing but the water. Clear your mind, and listen to the water hit the floor.

5. Listen to your favorite music.

Put on your favorite playlist and dance around to it. This should change your mood real quick.

6. Take a drive.

For me, driving clears my head. It's okay to get away for a while.

7. Write down your feelings.

Journaling and keeping a diary isn't weird. It's good to get your feelings down on paper because you have it there, and then you can rip the page out and throw it away. It can feel releasing. What am I doing now? Writing!

8. Watch the sky on a sunny day.

When it's sunny, lay down on your back and watch the sky, regardless if there are clouds or not. Sometimes I just like to stare at the blue and listen to the nature around me.

9. Find a stress sensory ball.

Squeeze it really hard! I have at least five stress balls laying around on my desk, but I never use them enough.

10. Treat yourself!

Go out to eat, get your nails done, do something that makes you happy! This will take all of your stress away for sure. It works for me, at least.

Good luck with the rest of the semester, college peeps!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
