5 Reasons Why Your Best Friend Is Better Than Any Boyfriend You'll Ever Have
Nicole Ingraffia

When we were in elementary school, boys were the bane of our existence. Yuck. It's almost as if they were a whole different species. Since day one, our motto has been "Girls Rule, Boys Drool," taunting any boy that came near us as a defense mechanism. Cooties were very real, after all. As long as we had our girl friends to play dress up and drink our pretend tea with, we were set.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly when boys became relevant to us, but now that we are older, we may kind of, sort of, be completely and utterly boy crazy (although they totally still have cooties). But, we must not forget to lend credit to the girl who has had our backs since day one, our best friend. She is the girl who we play dress up and drink real tea with, and we experience every moment in between with her. She knows us like the back of her hand. Heck, she's technically the ultimate boyfriend when you think about it. Here's why:

1. She is your confidence when you have none.

Do you ever have one of those days when you look in the mirror and pick yourself apart? My hair is so dead. My face is literally covered in zits. Oh my God, do you see my nose? It's HUGE. On these days when your self esteem is stomped on, and you promise to never leave the house, she comes in right on cue. "You. Are. So. Perfect. Why are you so perfect? It's not fair. Why are you dressed so cute? Can I please be you?" Although you don't feel perfect, your best friend sure does a hell of a job making sure you never feel less than what you are.

2. She plans the best "dates."

When you've had enough of sitting together in your room watching Vines, going to the mall, and Starbucks, she always has the best ideas. She's always up for an adventure and keeps in mind what you like to do. "Remember in the seventh grade you said how bad you wanted to go to that drive-in movie theater two hours away? Let's go tonight, I'll call out of work."

3. She knows you better than you know yourself.

With a single look on your face, your BFF can tell whichever emotion you are feeling. "What's wrong? You're biting your nails -- you always do that when you're stressed." Whether you are happy, upset, angry, or depressed, she has the ability to sense it all. It's this weird superpower I'd like to call the BFF Sixth Sense.

"How did you know I was upset?"

"My BFF sixth sense was tingling. Now tell me, what's up?"

4. She is your biggest fan.

She is always there to cheer you on. Dance recital? She's there front row (with a huge, embarrassing sign, nonetheless). Huge exam? She's right there with the flash cards, testing you until you can't get it wrong. Washed your clothes for the first time on your own? She's documenting it, sending it to your mom, and making you laugh the whole time. You'll never have someone who thinks everything you do is insanely cool like she does.

5. She will never let you do life alone.

As corny as it sounds, you never have to live this life without anyone on your side. Boys come and go, but she's permanent. She will pick you up when you're down and help brush you off. She will make you laugh when you don't think you'll ever smile again, and she will never let you forget how much you matter to not only her, but this world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
