If you're like me, you can be pretty hard on yourself sometimes. It’s easy to get down on ourselves when things don’t turn out how we hoped or planned. We all expect the best and accept nothing less from ourselves. When things tend to go a stray in our lives we often tend to wallow and host a pity party. (Who is with me?) "I'll never be good enough," or "wow, this is all my fault” usually are the first thoughts that come to our minds. The world isn’t black nor white, there are going to be gray areas, so we should never think in just black and white.
A lot of us find that loving ourselves can be pretty a pretty hard task. We imagine up in our minds so many fake flaws that we think we have, when I reality we are all beautiful. Truth be told, we are all amazing and individual people with so much to give. Throughout my high school year, and especially since coming to college I have found that self-love is the most important quality and ability to have. Here's why:
1. It tells others how you deserve to be treated.
You know how to treat yourself and you know what you deserve from other people. You are kind to yourself. You shouldn’t accept any less than what you think you deserve. You respect yourself and you know your flaws. You (hopefully, sometimes) can admit when you're wrong. Love yourself before you start loving others. If you wouldn't accept it from yourself...you shouldn't take it from anyone else!
2. There is only one you.
Nobody can take your individuality from you. Everything about you is unique and special. Don’t let differences in how you look, act, or talk stop you from believing you are a beautiful and incredible person. Everyone deserves happiness and everyone deserves love. Take in who you are, and be happy with every quality you have been given
3. Everybody struggles
No one is 100 percent happy with who they are or how they look. Although someone may appear perfect to you every person has some sort of insecurity inside of them. If you are struggling with some part of yourself, I can guarantee someone else is, too. Everyone has demons, ghosts and locked doors that they have to someday open, face and overcome. But know that someone out there is fighting the same battle, and that should give more motivation to love yourself just a little more.
