For all of you readers who are unaware of this amazing organization, Love Your Melon is one that strives to provide a knot hat to every child in America that is currently battling or undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer. First off, they reached that goal this year! Every child in America was given a hat. Now, their mission is has morphed into something even greater, if that was even possible.
They are now partnered with Cure Search and Pinky Swear, which are two nonprofit organizations that work in the field of pediatric oncology, fund cancer research initiatives, and provide immediate support for families of children battling cancer.
Love Your Melon crewmates work tirelessly in order to support local and distant children within the radius of their campus. In addition to this, crew members also push to familiarize the public with their organization and their philosophy. This familiarization can range from a food can drive at a local supermarket or on-campus information booths that provide information and a variety of small memorabilia.
Happiness is a necessity in life disregarding age. Every person that I meet, I hope to make their day brighter and memorable. With that being said, I think it is imperative to state that everyone should try and participate in one way or another. From being an ambassador, being part of the crew, being a volunteer, or simply purchasing merchandise; all positions are extremely rewarding. Whether you're at the backbone of the organization or being a consistent follower, Love Your Melon is very accepting of promotional ideas or on campus awareness events.
Personally, I believe the public should always be aware and observant to Love Your Melon's fundraisers in order to further promote its reputation, as well as providing collaborative research towards pediatric cancer that stems from net proceeds.
It's obvious, to me at least, that pediatric cancer is such an underfunded research (less than 4%), but Love Your Melon is trying to change that.
You can be the change. You can take part in pediatric cancer research without being a chemist, a researcher, a doctor, or a caregiver.
