Western Kentucky University: home of the Hilltoppers, Big Red, nationally-ranked athletics and the best university in Kentucky. Being a Hilltopper is something we should all be proud of. We not only have an absolutely beautiful campus, but also have several distinct characteristics that set us apart from any college or university. WKU is not just a place where you learn, but a place where you grow as well. If you are lucky enough to become a Hilltopper, you will over time discover the good qualities and all the little quirks, too.
1. That hill.
Freshman 15... what's that? I bet UK girls don't have legs as good as ours.
2. The parking.
Following people in the parking lot just to get their spot isn’t considered creepy. Also risking the chance of getting a parking ticket just so you don’t have to park in Egypt lot is an everyday thing.
3. Bid night is a holiday.
Duh.
4. Going 15 miles per hour on Normal Street.
More like 30.
5. Getting up at 8 a.m. to tailgate in "The Valley."
We tailgate harder than the other team plays.
6. Freaking out when you see Big Red or Ransdell.
Because having a mascot who looks like this and a President who skydives into a football game is worth freaking out about.
7. Missing school three weeks into Winter Break.
Six weeks is seriously way too long.
8. White squirrels are a thing.
Never seen a white squirrel? Just wait -- that will change.
9. Not being scared of being hit by a car while walking across University Boulevard.
*Walks out in front of car*
"Go ahead, hit me, pay for my tuition"
*continues walking*
10. Changing your meal schedule to avoid the crowds at DSU (but really it's still DUC).
Because a place that has a Chick-fil-A, Steak-n-Shake, Starbucks and Papa Johns is the only logical place to eat for lunch... and unfortunately, everyone else thinks so, too.
11. You have more Red Towels than you do textbooks.
Because let's face it, you'd rather wave the red towel than read your history book.
12. Being asked what Bid Red is on a daily basis.
He's the top of a hill people... not a blob, or a frog, or whatever else you come up with.
13. Skipper, Bob is your best friend whenever there's a snow storm.
When his name pops up in your email you feel like it's Christmas morning all over again.
14. G.A.D.S is a necessity at 2 a.m.
Close to campus, open 24 hours... and well, donuts.
15. College Street is the place to live.
Hilligans. Frat row. Top of the hill... what more do you need?
16. WKU has become your "home away from home."
Whether you're an incoming freshman or an alum, you will always be able to call this place home.
