You don't get to. I'm going to say that right off the bat.
The old movie cliche that you will never work a day in your life if you do what you love. That's a lie. If you feel you have never worked a day in your life, than you probably haven't worked a day in your life. In my very short time on this earth I have already found a million things I 'love' to do, and I still have to work to do them. I don't hate my job or my life. I love my job and my life, but I still do things that I don't love.
The people that tell you to do what you love because they wish they would have gone with their heart and not their bank account aren't lying. They just aren't telling the whole truth. You can go backpacking across Europe and meet new people. You can do whatever makes you happy, like most people do when they are young. The struggle for most people is deciding between memories and money. I'll be the first to tell you, memories last forever and money never lasts. I would give every dollar I've ever made for the memories with my son.
Like I already said, you don't get to. You don't get to do whatever you want. You are not going to get your dream job straight out of college and even if you do, you will have to work hard once you get there. There is no dream without hard work. The hard work is what makes it a dream. Don't let hard work scare you, the harder something is going to be the bigger the dream. It's a lot like a relationship with your dreams. It's hard work to keep it going but if you do, you'll be living the dream. That doesn't mean the hard work stops.
Hard work shouldn't scare you. Hard work should motivate you. Doing things that aren't easy, make people who they are. Taking the road less traveled isn't always the smartest, but who says you need to be the smartest? Make mistakes, work hard, love your life and you may look back and think about all the hard work you've done in your life and still you may not love what you did. There will always be a struggle and that's life.
You don't have to be pessimistic and live life always thinking you will never love what you do. One day you will love what you do, but you will have to work hard to get there. The strongest man in the world isn't there because he didn't work hard and didn't do thing he didn't want to do. The richest man in the world isn't there because he didn't work hard. If you still think you will never work a day in your life just remember, you don't get to.
