You Deserve A Day Off

There's no better way to be your best self than to make sure you're taking the time for yourself.

This is for the workaholics. The overachievers. The ones who cannot put their phone down due to the fear of missing something important. This is for the ones who feel that they cannot stop or else they'll get left behind. The ones who feel that fear of getting replaced when they can't show up. The ones who stress over not doing well enough or being good enough. The ones who need to keep moving because they're scared if they stop, they won't reach their dreams.

You deserve a day off.

It's hard to hear when you're one of those people who cannot stop. You work yourself into the ground and cannot think about stopping because you feel that you need to keep proving yourself over and over again, or else you'll get left behind. And as hard as it is to hear, it's even harder to actually do. You're used to going 24/7 and pushing yourself to continue to move through everything and accomplish things. As much as that's an amazing quality to have and as much as your hard work doesn't go unnoticed (I promise you, it doesn't), you need to learn that every single person in the world needs a break. Everyone needs to take time to themselves and everyone deserved to have that break.

You will not be left behind. No matter how much fear you have about it, it will not happen. You need to unplug and you need to take time for yourself. It can - better yet, it is - mentally, physically, and emotionally draining to be going 24/7 and constantly pushing yourself to do more and accomplish more. It's too much for anyone to handle and although it can be even harder to slow down, it's so important that you do. It's so incredibly worth it, as well.

You deserve the break as much as anyone else who takes one. You deserve to put yourself first and you deserve to have that little bit of self-care in your life. Whether you take your day off to do things that fulfill your heart like going on a hike or getting errands out of the way, or you take your day off to just lay on the couch and do nothing, it's your day off and it's your choice. Take the time to fill up your energy and to make yourself feel better however that may look. Take the time to put yourself first and let everyone else stay on the back burner for one day. It's okay to do that.

You deserve the time off and you deserve to recharge your batteries. Make sure to always take that time into account and make it a priority in your life. There's no better way to be your best self than to make sure you're taking the time for yourself. You cannot run yourself into the group or be on the go all day, every day. It's not worth it in the long run. You deserve the time off.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
