Through life, we are constantly looking around to find who we were meant to be. As a freshman in college I have been through many hardships in my life, but over the years, I've had to overcome many obstacles I didn't think would be possible to get over. Eventually, I had to face my fears to not look back on the struggles I was faced with. Every day, someone is diagnosed with depression and anxiety. It's a challenge when you're so young trying to fight through those mental issues. You're sitting around fighting with yourself in the mirror because you can't face the person looking back at you.
Today, I want to share five things that have helped me when I was feeling lost. No matter how hard you try, you always want to look back on your mistakes. I'm here to share with you that looking back isn't going to make the situation go away. The only thing you can do is learn from it and move on. Our world continues to move, I often forget that there are beautiful discoveries we have yet to find. Whenever you're looking in that mirror, scared, confused or depressed, I can only believe that these five reasons came to your mind and gave you hope. We all need to have that some days; hope.
1. Making a mistake doesn't define who you are.
We are not taught enough about how the mistakes you make in life are okay. We see so many young adults shortening their lives from silly choices they’ve made. Nobody is perfect and there isn’t a single person on this planet who has never made a mistake in their life. Just because you’ve messed up doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. Look at someone you idolize, no matter how famous or popular they seem to you they also have secrets. Each person has a secret because everyone makes mistakes. Most of the idols we look up to are the ones who have grown into who they are to inspire others. It all takes a bump in the road to discovering the greatness inside ourselves.
2. You won’t grow.
If it wasn’t for the tough times we've faced, then we wouldn’t be able to grow into what we were born to be. Everyone has a reason to be here on this planet whether we want to believe it or not. Our purpose will take some time to be shown off, but we have to keep growing for others to notice. When you dwell on the past, you’re holding yourself back from the all the amazing things in front of you. Be the change you wish to see in the world as Gandhi once said because only you as a person have the choice to grow into someone you never imagined.
3. You’re missing out on adventures.
Honestly, when you look back on your mistakes, it should strive you to turn your life into an adventure. Stop sitting at home and tell yourself that you can move on. Take a step outside, go see the world and discover what’s out there for your future. I promise you don’t want to miss what’s in store for you. Tell yourself to laugh a little more, hug a little more or even love a little more, because at the end of the day, those are the best things you could do. Turning your life into a positive one for others around you is exactly what your path was made for. Be different and be inspiring. Never stop adventuring around the world.
4. You won’t find the love of your life.
I’ve noticed that most people who look back on their mistakes are the one’s who have messed up with their “true love” back in the day. Well, sorry to tell you, but the path that was built for your life didn’t include that person. Everything happens for a reason. It will suck at the time, but keep your head held high for the right person who will love you through your mistakes. We all want that one person who can be our prince charming, it just sucks when we get our heart broken at times. All I can say is that patience is the key to it all. Coming from experience, every mess up I've made has led me to some amazing people. It doesn't always work out, but where I am now was worth all those mistakes. Don't stop dreaming, keep moving forward. There's someone right in front of you waiting.
5. There's more good than bad.
No matter how much you think about your past, you should be able to think of all the GOOD things in your life. Our world has too many beautiful things to see for you to dwell on the mistakes. Life won't always be easy, but from all the rough times you might go through, there is always more good than bad. Learn and grow from your mistakes, just don't let it stop you from being who you are.
