You Can Only Have One Best Friend

You Can Only Have One Best Friend

I am the typical social butterfly. I can make friends walking down the street, at work, in the drive-thru line, you name it. So growing up, I did have a lot of really close friends. I always did, and still do, identify my friends that are super close to me as my best friend(s). My brother used to make fun of me. He would say, "You can only have one BEST friend, Kylie." I would argue with him for days on end that I was allowed to have more than one best friend. All of my best friends are completely different, and I love each and every one of them for different reasons. They each bring out different best parts of me. (And yes they will ALL be in my wedding.) There are all kinds of different types of "best" friends:

The kind you've had since day one:

They've been there for you since basically kindergarten and can tell you things about yourself that you don't even know. They're there to bring back the good old days when life was easy. They've seen you pre-puberty and still laugh at how ugly you guys were. They've been there since the beginning, and they will be there until the end.

The kind that no matter how much time passes, when you see them it's like nothing changed:

These are the friends who actually have a life or go away to another college in another state. You can go six months without seeing them, but you know as soon as you see each other, you'll be gossiping and watching Netflix with cookies just as if you had seen each other yesterday. These are one of the best kinds of friends to have.

The kind that are your high schools bffls:

These girls have your back and have had it since you thought you were the coolest thing since sliced bread. They were there for the drama, the sleepovers, the football games, the spring breaks, the fights, and they're always there to remind you of the ugly boy you dated or your awkward first kiss. Thanks, guys.

The college best friends:

These guys are probably the reason you made it out alive your freshman year of college. They are there to hold your hair, get you Gatorade when you're sick, offer to drive you to the hospital when your leg is falling off, make sure you make it home (or to somewhere safe) every night, and always send a "get goes with me" text. These girls got cho' back even when you're at your worst.

The kind that is your guy best friend:

Everyone needs a guy best friend. It's a requirement. They are there for guy advice (mostly to tell you that the guy is stupid). Guy BFFs are always the most honest. They will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. Also, sometimes hanging with only girls gets too much.

Having too many best friends is not a problem. I always have someone to get food with and I'm never alone! There's no such thing as too many best friends; it's a lie. I will surround myself with as many people who make me happy as I want. AND THEY ALL WILL BE MY BRIDESMAIDS (EVEN THE BOYS!)

*Disclaimer: My big is also my best friend, but disaffiliation makes that impossible to write about her or put pics because I'm not paying a fine. Stay tuned for an article about her.*

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
