“Nevertheless, she persevered.”
Here we go, another article on why being healthy matters. Can’t imagine how excited you are to see the reiteration of ideas that have been thrown at you since you could say the word “diet.” Well, I hate to break it to you but you can put your jaded thinking somewhere else (preferably a safe place, you’ll need it later) and read these words with open ears and open eyes.
So, last week I decided to enroll in a 14-day trial at a place called Chicago Fit Performance . Essentially, it’s like personal training but in a group setting. There are other options but you can find all that out later – I’ll leave a link. Anywho, here’s the deal.
It’s fucking great.
Seriously, I love it. This isn’t coming from someone who’s put-together in life or anything. Far from it. I’m the “this Monday I’ll start being healthy” type who, one year later, is still looking for an infinite amount of Mondays to start her diet on. I am that bitch. And so are you probably. So, from one bitch to another; Just. Fucking. Start.
So I started and I have to go to the sessions three times a week. After the 2nd time going I was ready to make my usual excuses and give up but I went anyway because you know why? It’s nothing poignant so don’t hold your breath. I just figured since it was a morning workout I’d bang it out and be able to GTFO as quickly as possible back to my bed. So I went and I managed and I got home and realized that I had just taken another step towards being the self I aspire to be. It was an interesting feeling because there was nothing perfect in it. I hadn’t killed that session at the gym. I suffered through it but coming out I had done something.
You don’t have to be perfect. I sure as hell am not. I ordered wings yesterday at 11 pm and I have lived to tell the very sorry tale. The thing is, it’s something you just have to put up with. It’s like getting an education. Annoying and exhausting but necessary. And yeah, I know there’ll be those people who you go into class with who can absorb information and get straight A’s without opening a damn textbook but don’t think about them. Same in the gym. People will walk in with metabolisms higher than your IQ but who gives a fuck? If it weren’t for people like you where would we find all these uplifting stories of perseverance and saying yes in the face of no?
Okay, I’m scaling back the mush a bit. Here are a few things you need to know. Exercise is a very important part of being healthy but it’s your diet which is the key to overall success. Currently, I am making very steady progress with exercise but diet is a struggle for me. It would’ve been very easy for me to tell you guys that I’m killing it at the gym and simply omit my crappy diet to make you feel bad about yourselves and envy the new and improved me. Something we see a lot in social media today. Omission.
I don’t intend to fool you, and that I hope to know that I’m about to order some lo mein brings you comfort. I would also like you to know, however, that I’m working on it. What I’m doing for myself right now is making sure that I eat the healthiest breakfast possible and wake up at 7-8am every day. I’m taking small steps at a time because, in the past, the whole cold turkey thing never worked. So I’m being a chicken right now and it feels good.
You will always want for something if you never start it. So get up and do it. You will thank yourself later.
Here is a link to the website of the place I’m currently at. Chicago Fit Performance, learn the name. Can’t toot their horn enough, absolutely wonderful people. I know for a fact that it’s the way these guys; Kosta, Hayden, and William have introduced me to the world of fitness that I’m still doing what I’m doing. So many of the things I said in this article, small baby steps, diet etc are all things I knew but were reinforced so strongly by them. And for that, I say Thank You.
